Career

Martin began his acting career as a stuntman on shows such as Doctor Who, but after breaking his collar bone filming the drama Elizabeth R (1971), he moved to acting. He appeared in the BBC television series Paul Temple as well as the ITV television series The Governor. Secrets of a Windmill Girl (1966), The Sex Thief (1973), Eskimo Nell (1975), Adventures of a Plumber's Mate (1979), and Boston Kickout (1995).

He co-starred Peter Dean in the BBC television series Law & Order in 1978, portraying Detective Inspector Fred Pyall. He played Det from 1981 to 1982. Insp. Berwick is the subject of two BBC drama The Chinese Detective is a film starring Elizabeth Berwick. He was the second actor to play R. D. Wingfield's fictional Detective Inspector Jack Frost, starring in a BBC radio version of A Touch of Frost. He appeared in an episode of Minder's season five in 1984. He appeared in King and Castle alongside Nigel Planer in 1985, which ran for two series until 1988. Martin, a writer and co-writer for The Sweeney creator Ian Kennedy Martin, portrayed ex policeman Ronald King, who now runs a debt collection firm in London's East End. Alex Morris appeared in Eldorado as Alex Morris before being cast in Eldorado. He has appeared in many television shows, including returning to Doctor Who to play policeman David Mitchell in Image of the Fendahl (1977) as the villain Spooner, Upstairs, Downstairs, Only Fools and Horses. Martin also appeared in a episode of Little Britain.

He started playing Charlie Slater in EastEnders in September 2000. Martin and five other actors were dropped from the program in April 2010. Charlie Will return to EastEnders for two episodes in early 2011 after being in early 2011. At Christmas 2013, he appeared in two more episodes. On February 11, 2015, it was announced that plans for Martin's return had been postponed, but that Martin would return to England in October. In part one of two episodes in which he suffered a heart arrest, he was written off the show on Thursday, January 7th, 2016.

In 2004, he appeared in a short film called Piggy Bank.

He appeared in January 2012 as one of the first five couples in the third series of Celebrity Coach Trip partnering fellow actor John Altman.
