Dennis Edwards Jr. (February 3, 1943-1981 – February 1, 2018), an American soul and R&B musician who was best known as the frontman in The Temptations on Motown Records, was an American soul and R&B singer.
Edwards joined the Temptations in 1968, replacing David Ruffin and performing with the group from 1968 to 1984, 1988, and 1989.
He attempted a solo career in the mid-1980s, scoring a hit with "Don't Look Any Further" in 1984 (featuring Siedah Garrett).
Edwards, the lead singer of The Temptations Review, which was a Temptations splinter group, before his death.
Personal life and death
Edwards had a friendship with singer Aretha Franklin, who claimed he was the source of her 1972 soul album "Day Dreaming." Edwards was briefly married to Ruth Pointer, whom he wed in Las Vegas in 1977. Issa Pointer, the couple's one child, became a member of her mother's vocal group, The Pointer Sisters, in 2005. Edward Edwards moved to Florissant, Missouri, in the 1980s to be closer to his mother.
Edwards died in a Illinois hospital on February 1, 2018, at the age of 74. Before his death, he had been fighting meningitis.
