Kappatoo and The Bill were two of a few television dramas as an adolescent. She appeared in a Drinking and Driving Wrecks Lives commercial in 1992. Melanie Blatt, also performed backing vocals for Dreadzone. She performed with former video game soundtrack singer Cathy Warwick in a 'girl group' called Those2Girls,' by which time she had become Denise van Outen. Those2Girls were signed to BMG's Final Vinyl record label and had a minor Top 40 hit in 1995 called "All I Want." In a 2007 survey of readers of Grazia magazine, Van Outen was named Rear of the Year in 1999 and ranked as the most coveted "bikini body."

Jill appeared in ITV1's interpretation of the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk with Julie Walters and Neil Morrissey during her first appearance on The Big Breakfast Show. She left The Big Breakfast at the end of 1998 in order to continue her acting career.
