He is best known for his role as Jim Hopper in Netflix's Stranger Things, which earned him a Critics' Choice Television Award in 2018.

Early life
David Kenneth Harbour was born in White Plains, New York, to parents Kenneth and Nancy (née Riley) Harbour on April 10, 1975. Both of his parents work in real estate, his mother is a resident, and his father is a commercial. He and actor Sean Maher and Eyal Podell attended Byram Hills High School in Armonk, New York, as well as actor Sean Maher and Eyal Podell. In 1997, Harbour graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Harbour, a drama and Italian, was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity whilst at Dartmouth.
Personal life
Harbour had a friendship with Alison Sudol. Harbour has been in a symbiose with singer Lily Allen since 2019. They made their red carpet debut at the 26th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. They married in Las Vegas on September 7, 2020, at an Elvis impersonator's wedding.
Harbour has practiced in many faiths, including Catholicism and Buddhism; however, now he does not believe in the "paranormal" and believes that people "create a life with... awareness." He once believed in ghosts but now doesn't.
Harbour said in an interview with The Guardian about his role in Black Widow in July 2021, "I don't know that there is anyone who opposes socialist ideology," and later, "the prospect of a kindergarten-type society in which we all agree is my ideal society," as opposed to this world, where we're hunting and killing for our own personal greed and destroying for our own personal hoarding."
Harbour suffered with alcoholism in the past and has been sober since his early 20s. Harbour began drinking as a youth and found the habit worsened while attending Dartmouth college. After feeling "very lonely and needing a new direction in my life," he decided to avoid alcohol, and has said "I love consciousness too much now" to drink again.
Harbour was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 26.
Career
In 1999, Harbour began performing professionally on Broadway, as part of The Rainmaker's revival. He made his television debut in Law & Order's episode in the same year as a waiter. He appeared again in 2002 as a member of the Special Victims Unit, playing a child murderer. In the ABC series Pan Am, Harbour played MI6 Agent Roger Anderson in a recurring role. He was nominated for a Tony Award in 2005 for his role in a film titled Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Harbour is also known for his work as CIA Agent Gregg Beam in Quantum of Solace, as Shep Campbell in Revolutionary Road, and as Russell Crowe's source in State of Play. In a 2009 episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Paul Devildis was praised for his role as a spree killer. Brokeback Mountain, The Green Hornet, End of Watch, and Between Us are among Harbour's other film credits. He appeared as a head doctor in the television series Elementary in 2013. Elliot Hirsch played the role in The Newsroom from 2012 to 2014.
In the first season of the historical drama series Manhattan, Harbour portrayed Dr. Reed Akley. Harbour was portrayed as Chief Jim Hopper in the Netflix science fiction horror film Stranger Things in 2015. Harbour has received awards for his work in the series, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (2017 and 2018) and the Best Supporting Actor Award (2018, Miniseries, or Television Film (2018). Harbour and the remainder of the cast also received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series (2017).
