David Gray Career

Career

Gray was born in 1968 in Sale, Cheshire, England, and spent in Altrincham, Cheshire, England, before moving with his family and family at the age of nine to Solva, Pembrokeshire, Wales, where his parents took over a gift shop and started a clothing store. "I had an amazing time growing up there... My imagination could run wild." It was that which made me realize that I had a bizarre sense of self-confidence and had no doubt that I could do something as odd as play music for a living. He attended Ysgol Dewi Sant high school in St Davids, then on to Carmarthenshire College of Art, and then Liverpool School of Art.

Gray's first two albums, A Century Ends and Flesh, were released in 1993 and 1994 respectively, and it led to Gray's popularity in folk-rock circles, but not in terms of commercial sales. Gray's third album, Sell, Sell, Sell, Sell, Sell, is his third collection. The album was shot at Pyramid Sound Studios in Ithaca, NY. Despite his dislike of the album, Gray has continued to reside in Ithaca, NY, on and off throughout the years. Despite critical acclaim, the album did not chart, but alternative UK radio stations included "Late Night Radio." Gray, a 1997 Mary Black album Shine, contributed five songs.

White Ladder was first on Gray's own label IHT Records in November 1998 and was re-released on ATO Records in 2000. The re-release brought him commercial success and critical attention. White Ladder's first three albums featured acoustic folk songs and guitar-based alternative rock, but his latest record, "representation of folk music," he said. "This Year's Love," "Babylon," "Please Forgive Me" and "Sail Away were among the album's best-known songs: "This Year's Love," "Babylon," "Babylon," "Please Forgive Me" and "Sail Away" were among his best-known songs on the album. Following its re-release, combined with the unveiling and popularity of single "Babylon," it sold 100,000 copies in Ireland alone, making it the country's highest-selling album for six weeks. "Babylon" debuted in June 2000, the first time in June. It ranks 5th in the UK Singles Chart; it is the highest UK hit to date. The album received a boost from jam-band founder Dave Matthews, who made it the first appearance by ATO Records, the record company he co-founded, in the United States. The first of three US chart entries for Gray to date, "Babylon" was the first of three.

The album was No. 9. Two years and five months since its inception, the UK Albums Chart has stood at 1,613 weeks, spending a total of 151 weeks on the chart. Other than "Please Forgive Me," which debuted at No. 1, there are other items on the charts. The 'Please Forgive Me' charted top the UK Singles Chart, at number 72, and "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" and "Sail Away" reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart, with all other single releases charted within the Top 20.

The EPs 1992-1994, a rarities collection of Gray's early works, as well as an album of recently unreleased songs recorded in 1999, Lost Songs 95-99, which followed White Ladder into the top 20 in the UK Albums Chart, respectively. Gray also sang on Orbital's 2001 album "Illuminate," an electro-based band.

Gray produced A New Day at Midnight, a follow-up to White Ladder, in November 2002. The latest edition did not receive the same critical acclaim as its predecessor, but it still finished at number one, smashing Pop Idol's debut album What My Heart Wants to Say in its first week of debut and selling nearly 150,000 copies. It went on to become platinum within a year, eventually being named four times platinum overall, and it was the second-best-selling album by a UK artist in 2002, behind Pop Idol winner Will Young's debut album From Now On. In "The Other Side" and "Be Mine," a New Day in Midnight," produced two more UK Top 30 hits, as well as a minor US hit with "Dead in the Water."

Gray, who suffered with three-year absence as a result of exhaustion, released his seventh album, Life in Slow Motion, in September 2005. In its first week of introduction, it topped the UK Albums Chart like its predecessor. Life in Slow Motion was praised by many commentators after the widely mocked A New Day at Midnight. In October 2005, lead single "The One I Love" became a Top ten hit in the UK and spent three months in the UK chart. Gray went into hiatus in 2006 after the relative commercial failure of follow-up singles "Hospital Food" and "Alibi."

Gray's compilation album Shine: The Best of the Early Years was released in March 2007. On July 7, 2007, Gray and Damien Rice appeared at Wembley Stadium in London for the UK leg of Live Earth. On October 8, Gray released a compilation of live covers titled A Thousand Miles Behind exclusively on his official website and digital download. Gray released the album Greatest Hits on November 13th, which features many of his best-known songs as well as two new songs, including the lead single "You're the World to Me."

Gray announced on May 28th that his album Draw the Line would be released in the United Kingdom and in the United States on September 14th. Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland's appearances on the album include guest appearances. "Fugitive," the album's first single, was released on September 7, 2009, coincident with the start of a massive world tour. Gray performed his self-proclaimed first poolside performance at the Rooftop Pool at The Colonnade Hotel in Boston on September 19th at the Mix 104.1 End of Summer Bash. Gray performed "Fugitive," "Draw the Line," and "Jackdaw."

Gray admitted to Jackie Hayden that he was working on his next album, Foundling, during an interview for Hot Press, which was published on December 3rd. Gray said one of the tracks would be called "The Old Chair," which Gray said would include only a drum kit and me on my Steinway piano. It's very quiet." On August 16, a foundling was released in the United Kingdom. On August 17th, he was in the United States and in the United States. Foundling is a double album: the first CD features 11 new songs and the second contains eight previously unreleased songs. iTunes has a ninth version.

David Gray has signed a global deal with Kobalt Label Services for the debut of his tenth studio album, Mutineers. It was his first recording in four years, and was produced by Andy Barlow at The Church Studios in London. The release occurred on June 17th, 2014. Gray was announced that it would support the new arrival with a North American tour in April and May, as well as an eight-date UK tour in June and July, which included a show at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

In October 2016, the Best of David Gray was released on CD, double CD, and LP, as well as two new recordings. Gray, who was co-founded with IHT Records, had already been released as a dynamic 'Best Of' on Spotify that changes shape every week, every month, every year, and every decade.

In March 2019, Gray set his 11th record, Gold in a Brass Age, on his 11th birthday. It was produced by Ben de Vries, son of producer Marius de Vries, and was seen largely as a return to his signature "folktronica" sound.

Gray's 20th anniversary edition of White Ladder was released in 2020. Both CD and vinyl formats were also available with a deluxe set of bonus tracks and demos. He embarked on an international tour to mark the centennial of his birth, but it was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gray revealed on his social media pages on May 20th that the tour would have to be postponed. On the 17th of May 2022, the tour began in Belfast, nearly two years before it was cancelled. Gray has always praised Ireland for his success, so it was fitting to begin the tour in Ireland.

Gray, a young artist, announced in January 2021 that his 12th studio album would be released on February 2021. Entitled Skellig (named after the Skellig Islands in County Kerry, Ireland), it featured a title track and a single called "Heart and Soul." It was recorded at Edwyn Collins' Helmsdale studio in Scotland and stars David Kitt, Rob Malone, and producer Ben de Vries as musicians on the album.

SPFL Review: Underachievement seems to be in the DNA of soft-centred Hibs

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 20, 2024
As part of the countdown to their 150th birthday next year, Hibs fans have been asked how they would like to celebrate such a landmark season in the history of their great club. A commemorative strip perhaps? A gala dinner? To the surprise of nobody who has seen and regretted Hibs' soulless slide into the corporate world, a 'very special range of merchandise' is already in the pipeline. What the club and its fans hadn't bargained for as they prepare to get out the party hats and the streamers is a relegation battle. And worse still the prospect of spending their anniversary season in the Championship.

THE WEEKEND PREVIEW: Gayle signing highlights recurring problem at Hibernian... and Robinson looks to end Killie Hoodoo

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 13, 2024
The term deja vu - first coined by French philosopher Emile Boirac in 1876 - describes the rather bizarre sensation of recalling an event or moment in the present, when logic dictates it simply can't be possible. According to the general consensus amongst experts, around two thirds of us will experience the phenomenon at some point in our lives. For anyone associated with Hibernian Football Club, however, that figure probably seems a little low. After all, deja vu seems like a weekly occurrence for fans of the Easter Road club these days.
