David Dhawan (born Rajinder Dhawan on August 16, 1955) is an Indian film producer who works in Hindi films.
Varun Dhawan's father and director Rohit Dhawan are both from Mumbai.
He is best known for his filming, including Swarg (1990), Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Bade Miyan (2000), Chashme Baddoor (2007), Main Tera Hero (2014) and Judwa 2 (2017).

Personal life
David Dhawan was born in Agartala, Tripura, on August 16, 1951 as Rajinder Dhawan, a Punjabi family. He and his father, a UCO Bank vice president, were moved to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He attended Christ Church College and BNSD Inter College until Class XII, then moved to FTII for acting where he changed his name to David Dhawan, a name given by his Catholic neighbors in Agartala. Dhawan realized that he could not act after seeing other actors like Satish Shah and Suresh Oberoi. He began editing as a result. He became a fan of Manmohan Desai and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Watching Meghe Dhaka Tara, directed by Ritwik Ghatak, inspired him to pursue filmmaking and earned him a gold medal. Two brothers, actor Anil Ashok, are among Dhawan's.
Dhawan is married to Karuna Chopra, with two sons, Rohit Dhawan and Varun Dhawan. Anil Dhawan, his brother, and Siddharth Dhawan, are both actors.
Career
In 1984, Dhawan began as an editor in Saaransh before he moved to directing. He specializes in directing comedies. His 1993 film Ankhen, starring Govinda, Chunky Pandey, and Kader Khan, was a huge hit at the box office. Shola Aur Shabnam was another hit film. His 2007 film Partner was a hit.
Dhawan is a member of the Asian Academy of Film & Television and Asian School of Media Studies, where he has been honoured with an academy award by Sandeep Marwah. He was a judge on the Star Plus show Nach Baliye 3 in 2008 and on the show Hans Baliye.
Dhawan first appeared in the film Taaqatwar (1989), alongside actor Govinda. He later formed a friendship with Govinda and produced 18 films with him as the leading actor, including Taaqatwar (1989), Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No. 2179.
