David Baldacci (born August 5, 1960) is a best-selling American novelist.

Early life and education

David Baldacci was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from Henrico High School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. After a career in Washington, D.C., he obtained his degree in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is of Italian descent.

Baldacci began writing stories as a youth when his mother gave him a notebook in which to record them. He wrote for more than two decades, primarily as a writer of short stories and later screenplays with no success.

He converted to novel writing while writing Absolute Power, which took three years to complete. It was an international best seller when it was first introduced in 1996. Baldacci has published 46 best-selling books for adults as well as seven for younger readers.

Baldacci and his family reside in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The Wish You Well Foundation, founded by Baldacci and his wife Michelle, helps combat illiteracy in the United States by funding adult literacy and education services. Baldacci became involved with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society after his sister, author Sharon Baldacci, was diagnosed with MS.

Baldacci served on the board of trustees of the Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, Connecticut, for ten years. He gave the home $1 million in 2019.
