Jo Nesbo Career

Career

Harry Hole, a tough detective with Crime Squad and later with the National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos), is the series's fifth detective, whose probes may take him from Oslo to Australia, Thailand, West Congo, Switzerland, or Brazil. Hole takes on seemingly unconnected cases, some involving serial killers, bank robbers, gangsters, or the establishment, but a substantial amount of time is spent combating alcoholism and his own demons.

The Harry Hole books are multi-layered, violent, and often depict women in peril, as portrayed by The Snowman. "I was always coming back to Harry; he is my soul mate," Nesb said on the return of Harry Hole in The Thirst. But it's still a dark soul, so it's both a thrill and a physically exhausting journey. However, Harry and the tale make it all worth the sleepless nights."

In October 2017, Tomas Alfredson directed (replacing Martin Scorsese, who produced), and Charlotte Gainsbourg starring Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, and Charlotte Gainsbourg premiered.

Fart Powder by Doctor Proctor, first published in 2007, was Nesb's first children's book. They are illustrated by Mike Lowery. Doctor Proctor, a vivacious professor, is on vacation in Oslo, Norway, and the series follows Doctor Proctor, his next-door neighbor Lisa and her strange neighbor Nilly, a short redheaded boy. Truls and Trym Thrane, the ruthless twins, are sometimes hiding in the background. Doctor Proctor's first two inventions are a powder that makes the user fart (and the farts don't smell) and the "Fartonaut Powder," which makes the user fart so strong that they blast into space. He invents a bathtub that allows the user to travel through time in book 2. There are 5 books in the series as of 2018.

In 2014, a live action film adaptation of the first book was produced, but it is only available in Norway. In 2015, a Doktor Proktors Tidsbadekar sequel was released with German participation. Both films received mixed reviews.

In October 2013, it was announced that someone under the pen name of Tom Johansen, Nesb, had written at least two books tentatively entitled Blood on Snow and More Blood on the Water, which would be published in fall 2014 and spring 2015. In 2015, Blood on Snow and its sequel Midnight Sun: Blood on Snow 2 were published, but not under Jo Nesb's name.

Warner Brothers acquired the rights to Blood on Snow and planned to produce a screen version starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which was also revealed in October 2013. However, it was announced on April 4, 2017 that Tobey Maguire's Material Pictures and Lawrence Grey's Grey Matter Productions had purchased the screen rights, and that Maguire would make his directorial debut on the proposed film version.

Olav Johansen, a fixer for Oslo crime boss Daniel Hoffman, is chronicled in this series. Olav has just found the woman of his dreams in Blood on Snow. The only issue is that she is his boss's wife and that his boss has hired him to murder her.

In September 2022, a film version of Midnight Sun directed by Francesco Carrozzini, starring Jessica Brown Findlay, Sam Spruell, Peter Mullan, and Charles Dance premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.

Magnus Martens converted the Nesb' story Twelve into the film Jackpot (Norwegian: Arme Riddere), a black comedy crime mystery film.

Nesb would produce a re-telling of Macbeth's tale in 2014 as part of the Hogarth Shakespeare project, which was described as a 'crime noir' version of the tragedy. His Macbeth was set in 1970 in an unspecified location that incorporates elements of Scandinavia and Scotland, and it involves an Inspector Macbeth of a paramilitary SWAT team attacking bikers, opioid dealers, and his police colleagues. It was first published in April 2018.

Denis Villeneuve's Denis Villeneuve's latest attempt to film Snnen (The Son), a stand-alone book starring Jake Gyllenhaal as producer and Channing Tatum in the lead role, was announced in 2016.

It was revealed on April 5, 2017, that Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur was working on a new version of I Am Victor, a short story by Nesb that was originally intended as a NBC television series but not finished.

Michael Fassbender as the protagonist was the protagonist in The Snowman, Tomas Alfredson's film and Jo Nesbo's adaptation. Detective Harry Hole (Fassbender) is looking into the disappearance of a woman in early winter, after he discovers that it may be a Snowman. The film cost $34 million (£27 million) to make but it had revenues of just $6.7 million (£5.4 million) in the United States and was rated at six percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite being panned at the time, the movie has risen to the top of the streaming service's website six years later as new people tune in.
