Michel Faber Life

Michel Faber (born 13 April 1960) is a Dutch-born writer of English-language fiction, including his 2002 book The Crimson Petal and the White.

Life

Faber was born in The Hague, Netherlands. In 1967, he and his parents immigrated to Australia. He attended primary and secondary school in Boronia and Bayswater, Melbourne, and then went to the University of Melbourne, where he learned Dutch, Philosophy, Rhetoric, English Language (a course involving translation and analysis of Anglo-Saxon and Middle English texts) and English Literature. He joined in 1980. He worked as a cook and in other casual occupations before beginning to work as a nurse in Marrickville and Western Suburbs hospitals in Sydney. He nursed into the mid-1990s. He, his second wife, and his family emigrated to Scotland in 1993. Eva Faber's second wife Eva died of cancer in July 2014 and he released Undiesing, a poetry collection about this event in 2016.
