Early life
Sitek, a child of 1972, grew up in Columbia, Maryland, with his brothers. According to Sitek, his mother worked in public education with a degree in child psychology, and "was really good at allowing me and my brothers to explore things." So much so that [she] let me start a hardcore band and play in our house when I was 14 years old. At an early age, Sitek was inspired by his "aunt Paula [who] sneaked out of the house [to see] Jimi Hendrix in the 1960s, and was particularly into Talking Heads and Blondies."
Dave Sitek spent time in a coffee shop with future television on Radio bandmate Kyp Malone and Grizzly Bear bassist Chris Taylor.
