Dave Newsham Career

Racing career

Newsham, a native of Carmarthen, joined the TOCA tour in 2008 and appeared in the final two rounds of the Renault Clio Cup UK. In 2009, Amery Motorsports' full season came to an end. At Silverstone, he earned one race victory and ranked fifth on points at the end of the season. In 2010, he joined Team Pyro and dominated the series, winning the championship with 12 race victories.

Newsham also stepped up to the British Touring Car Championship in 2011. With a Super 2000 BMW 320si, Newsham started the season off. In his first race at Brands Hatch, he earned a point, but a rough weekend at Donington Park, which featured two retirements, prompted him to leave the team.

Newsham drove a NGTC SEAT León for Special Tuning Racing after leaving Geoff Steel Racing. In his first race for the team at Oulton Park, he led the fastest lap and gained points. He started on pole position for the reverse grid race at Snetterton but fell to eighth place at the top of the order after suffering wheel damage. Despite having skipped the round at Thruxton, he finished 15th in the Drivers Championship, four places down on his teammate.

Newsham converted to an ex-Triple Eight Race Engineering S2000 spec Vauxhall Vectra run by Team ES Racing in 2012. He earned his first pole position at Brands Hatch at the start of the season, posting his time during the session and remained at the top of the time table. He was in contention for the victory in race 1 before Jason Plato called him and told him he was out of place. In the day's final run, he took his third podium finish. In the first race, he posted his second best result of the season at Thruxton, finishing second. Newsham finished in his first BTCC race at Snetterton in the third series, adding to his race victories with a lights to flag victory in the third run of his 'local' circuit at Knockhill. He claimed his sixth podium appearance of the season at Silverstone in the second race of the season, after finishing second in the first race of the day. In the Independents' Trophy, Newsham finished ninth in the drivers' standings and 6th. Newsham was named officially BTCC Champions' Driver of the Year for his first complete season in the BTCC.

On Sunday, Newsham was tested for Speedworks Motorsport at Donington Park. It was announced on December 20 that he would join the team for the 2013 season. He came in 10th in the standings.

Dave Newsham joined AmD and drove their NGTC Ford Focus for the 2014 season, placing 17th overall with a best result of 2nd.

Dave Newsham joined Power Maxed Racing in 2015 and drove their Chevrolet Cruze. During the year, he had two consecutive appearances and finished 16th in the championship standings.

Dave took the British Rallycross Championship in 2016, despite being unable to secure the funds for Touring Cars. Power Maxed Racing is a division of the British Rallycross Championship. He was recalled to their Touring Car program for two rounds only to fill in for Kelvin Fletcher halfway through the season. At Knockhill and 9th at Rockingham, he fought for his seventh position in his home run. He came in 22nd in the standings.

In 2017, Newsham joined BTC Norlin Racing, which brought him right back to the Chevrolet Cruze. He came in 14th in the standings.
