He is a former co-owner of Bobby Hamilton Racing-Virginia in the Craftsman Truck Series, as well as a former racing analyst for ESPN full time.

Compton was a prolific short track racer in Virginia before he ran in NASCAR.

Stacy Compton Career

Early career

Compton was born in Hurt, Virginia, and he began racing in Virginia with a nefarious focus on late models in local racing divisions. He eventually advanced to the NASCAR Winston Racing Series, winning 36 races in seven years of late model racing. Compton also hosted a television show devoted to Virginia races during this period. Compton made his debut in a major NASCAR series with Dean Monroe, when he qualified in 9th place at Martinsville Speedway in the Winston Cup series. After suffering from brake failure, he finished 33rd on the day. He ran in one other sport in his rookie season, the fall Martinsville Invitational. He came in 33rd in the overall race.
