Daniel Dubois Career

Amateur career

His father took him to the boxing gym at the age of nine to avoid being out of jail in South London. He works at the Peacock Gym in Canning Town, England, and is under the guidance of Tony and Martin Bowers. Around 75 amateur bouts were held in Dubois. He has won two English schoolboy titles, two junior ABAs, and the CYPs. Were the British Seniors? He spent a year and a half as part of the GB Elite set-up in Sheffield and boxed for England a dozen times, competing at the European Youth championships twice and winning gold medals at multi-nations in Tammer (Finland) and Brandenburg (Germany). He left the amateurs early, winning just a handful of senior amateur bouts. He was on the Great Britain Olympic team preparing to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but he turned pro instead, signing with boxing promoter Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions.

Professional career

In the first 35 seconds of the first round against Marcus Kelly in April 2017, Dubois' first match as a professional was a knockout victory. He beat Mauricio Barragan, a late replacement, in the second round to win the vacant WBC Youth heavyweight title. He knocked out AJ Carter in the first round of the Southern Area heavyweight title in October 2017. In his eighth fight in June 2018, he defeated journeyman Tom Little by stoppage in the fifth round. In March 2019, he won the WBO European championship, defeating Razvan Cojanu, a former WBO heavyweight champion, in two rounds. Kevin Johnson won on points after ten rounds in October 2018, and defeated Richard Lartey in the fourth round in April 2019.

In July 2019, he shocked Nathan Gorman by knocking out in the fifth round to raise his record to 12 victories, 11 by stoppage, and take the vacant British heavyweight title. "I wrestled like an old, seasoned bruiser, his feet were flawless, his jab a tenacious weapon inherited from ring relics," Boxing journalist Steve Bunce said. "One of the brightest prospects in the game at the moment," BBC boxing correspondent Mike Costello wrote.

Dubois faced Ebenezer Tetteh in his next fight. In the first round, Dubois blasted Tetteh out of the tournament, while losing him twice in the process.

Following that, Dubois met Japanese heavyweight Kyotaro Fujimoto. Fujimoto was overmatched from the start, struggling to recover from the first call. In the second round, Dubois tied the right hand that knocked out Fujimoto.

Dubois won again on August 29, 2020, this time over Ricardo Snijders. In the first round, Dubois was able to knock down three times. Since Dubois dropped his opponent for the fourth time, the first round would be the last that Snijders would live.

In a highly awaited domestic matchup against Joe Joyce at the Church House in London on November 28, 2020, Dubois made his first defense of his British and Commonwealth titles, as well as his WBC Silver and WBO International titles. Dubois was punching harder and cleaner punches in a close match that had ramifications for future world championship hopes, while Joyce stayed at range behind strong jabs. Joyce's repeated jarbs caused swelling in Dubois' left eye from the second round. Dubois collapsed on one knee, allowing the referee to call him out in the first loss of his career after another hard jab fell on his now-swollen-shut eye. Following the contest, it was discovered that Dubois had fractured left orbital bone and nerve damage around the eye.

Dubois returned to the ring on June 5th 2021 to face Bogdan Dinu in Telford after a layoff of over six months. Dubois secured the title by a second-round knockout, winning the vacant WBA interim heavyweight title in the process. In addition, his victory made him the mandatory challenger for the WBA (Regular) championship contested by undefeated Trevor Bryan.

On the 29th of August 2021, Dubois made his US debut on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley. He met Joe Cusumano and won by a technical knockout victory in the first round. In his post-fight interview, he expressed interest in suing Trevor Bryan for his WBA (Regular) title.

Dubois defeated Trevor Bryan by knockout in the fourth round to become the WBA (Regular) heavyweight champion, impressing nearly 500 fans at Casino Miami, Florida, on a card promoted by Don King.

Anthony Joshua's ex-conservation has called out Daniel Dubois for a fight in Saudi Arabia's Ring of Fire

On social media, Anthony Joshua's longtime rival Jermaine Franklin has called out Daniel Dubois, who has stated that he would combat DDD on the Ring of Fire undercard on May 18. Last month, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk were supposed to face each other in Saudi Arabia for the first disputed title match since 1999, but Fury pulled out after suffering a cut above his right eye in training. The Gypsy King suffered the injury while sparring with Agron Smakici and having stiches, causing his epic bout with Usyk to be postponed until May 18.
