Daniel Quine Auerbach (born May 14, 1979) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer best known as the guitarist and vocalist of the Black Keys, a blues rock band from Akron, Ohio.
Auerbach, a founding member of the group, has recorded and co-produced eleven studio albums with his bandmate Patrick Carney.

Childhood and early life
Auerbach was born in Ohio and is the son of Mary Little (née Quine), a French teacher, and Charles Auerbach (b. about 1950), an antique dealer. His father is of Polish Jewish descent, and his mother is of Manx descent. Willard Van Orman Quine, a scholar and logician, and his second cousin, Robert Quine, was twice removed, and his maternal cousin was abrasser, who was the late guitarist Robert Quine. Auerbach grew up in a family with musical roots. After listening to his father's old vinyl records growing up, Auerbach's first performance was Whitney Houston with his mother at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. His father and his father attended the Richfield Coliseum in Cleveland for his second concert. He was influenced early on by his mother's side of the family, especially his uncles who performed bluegrass music.
Auerbach described himself as a normal high school student who smoked marijuana and captained the Firestone High School soccer team. He attended the University of Akron. Auerbach was heavily influenced by Junior Kimbrough during college, eventually leading to his departure from playing the guitar more seriously.
