Enviro performed at the BBC Proms on July 1722, paying tribute to those legendary singers who inspired, including Nina Simone, Shirley Bassey, Billie Holiday, and Gladys Knight. "... Erivo's ode to 'Legendary Voices,' John Bungey wrote in The Times, a lot more than a night of reverent fangirl covers. There was plenty to enjoy once you understood the terms of engagement, particularly Erivo's breathtaking singing. She is a mezzo-soprano with a three-octave range, and although she occasionally improvised soulful embellishments, all was in service of the song. Her cappella opening to "The First Time I Saw Your Face" was so pure that it was almost a shame when the orchestra crept in. By contrast, her voice took on a vivacious bluesy for Franklin's "Ain't No Way," a funky highlight.
