Craig Ludwig Life

Craig Lee Ludwig (born March 15, 1961) is an American former professional hockey player.

He served as a defenceman in the National Hockey League from 1982-99 and was known for his shot-blocking skills.

Ludwig was the color analyst for the Dallas Stars television and radio broadcasts from 2016–2018.

Playing career

Ludwig played high school hockey at Northland Pines High School in Eagle River, Wisconsin, from 1975 to 1977. In 1978–1978, he helped the Eagles reach the semi-finals. In 1979–80, he competed on the USA Hockey National Junior Team, which toured Germany. Ludwig went on to attend the University of North Dakota from 1979-1982 as a walker. While playing for the Fighting Sioux, he won two National Championships, alongside other future NHL players James Patrick, Mark Taylor, Doug Smail, Dave Tippett, Rick Zombo, Troy Murray, and Jon Casey.

Ludwig was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 3rd round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, placing him at 61st overall. In 1986, he served in the Stanley Cup with the club. Gerald Diduck was traded to the New York Islanders in 1990. Ludwig became a free agent with the Minnesota North Stars after one season with the Isles.

After helping the Dallas Stars win their first Stanley Cup in 1991, he joined the team in Dallas in 1993 and ended his career in 1999. During his time with the Stars, Ludwig served as an alternate captain.
