Cheyenne David Jackson (born July 12, 1975) is an American actor and singer.

His work includes leading roles in Broadway musicals and other theater appearances, as well as film and television appearances, concert singing, and recording of songs. He began his acting career in regional theatre in Seattle, and by the time, Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002) and Aida (2003) were understudy.

In Altar Boyz (2004), he played Matthew for the first time.

Jackson's first leading role on Broadway was in All Shook Up (2005), which earned him a Theatre World Award for his "Outstanding Broadway Debut." Since then, he has appeared in The Agony & the Agony (2006), Xanadu (2006), and Finian's Rainbow (2010; Drama Desk nominations); and The Performers (2013). He has appeared in a number of films, including the 2006 Academy Award-nominated United 93, in which his portrayal of Mark Bingham earned him the Boston Society of Film Critics 2006 award for Best Ensemble Cast.

He appeared in the 2014 independent romantic comedy collection Mutual Friends, as well as in guest appearances in television series such as NBC's 30 Rock and Fox's Glee.

Early life

Jackson was born at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Washington, on July 12, 1975, to David and Sherri Jackson, and his father was named after the 1950s Western series Cheyenne. He was raised in Oldtown, Idaho, a "teen mill town" in a rural area in northern Idaho near the Washington border. He was the third of four children. His father, a native American and a Vietnam veteran, was a Vietnam war veteran. Jackson, his sister, and his two brothers were taught by his mother, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Elvis Presley at home. Jackson lived with his family in a rural home with no running water or an outhouse. As a child, he moved to Spokane.

Jackson was an ad executive at a newspaper and did some theatre work on the side, earning his Equity card. "I think I'll do with my life as soon as I learned what theater was, what Broadway was like," I thought. It's just a matter of getting all the pieces in place," he said. After the September 11 attacks, he redirected his life to New York City to fulfill his dream of being an actor: "Acting] was something I always wanted to do but I was too afraid and didn't have the confidence to do," says the actor. For those of us, 9/11 changed everything. "It gave me the urgency."

Jackson is gay. Monte Lapka, a physicist, first dated Jackson in 2000, and the two married in New York City on September 3, 2011. In July 2013, they announced plans to divorce. In September 2013, they applied for divorce.

On his official Instagram page, Jackson revealed that he was dating actor Jason Landau in October 2013. In February 2014, they announced their engagement and marriage in Encino, California, in September 2014. Jackson has appeared in numerous theaters around the world as Tony in Children of Eden, as Cain in Children of Eden, as Joe Bigelow in Carousel, as Rocky in The Rocky Horror Show and as The Poet in Kismet.

In the Tony Award-winning musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jackson made his Broadway debut understudied both male leads. He appeared in Aida's role as the standby for Radames and then portrayed Matthew in Altar Boyz's off-Broadway version. He appeared in All Shook Up, his first Broadway leading role in the film, a tribute to Elvis Presley. His appearance as Chad earned him a lot of critical praise, the Theatre World Award, and awards from the Drama League and Outer Critics Circle for Outstanding Lead Actor. Jackson appeared in The Agony and The Agony with Victoria Clark off-Broadway in 2006. Jackson stepped in in June 2007 in Xanadu's last week, replacing James Carpinello, who had been hospitalized during rehearsal. Jackson and Jane Krakowski appeared in recent workshops. The snap was taken on October 20. Jordan was suffering from shortness of breath in the weeks leading up to his death and had arranged an appointment to see a cardiologist within a week. He is thought to have died as a result of a heart attack, but the cause of death has yet to be determined.
