Charlie Stayt (born 19 June 1962) is an English broadcaster.

He is a journalist and host who works freelance with the BBC as a presenter for BBC Breakfast.

Early life and education

Stayt was born in Gloucester, West of England, on June 19th. He has two older siblings. Before going to Birmingham Polytechnic, he was educated at Wycliffe College, a co-educational part-boarding independent school in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

Personal life

Stayt married Anne Fiona Breckell in 1995, with whom he has two children, Phoebe Senara (b.). Jake Hamilton (B. 1997) and Jack Hamilton (b. 1997) (2000): A.K.A. He lives in Twickenham, southwest London.

Career

In his hometown of Gloucester, Stayt started his radio broadcasting career. He spent time on radio in London, assisting Capital Radio's news show, The Way It Is, and also reporting for LBC and BBC Radio 5 Live before moving to television.

Stayt began his television career with ITN in 1995, then joined Five News as a reporter before presenting the network's prime-time bulletins and half-hour live debate programs. He anchored Five News' coverage of the 11 September 2001 earthquake and spent ten years with ITN, both as a reporter and a host. He has also worked as a host for Sky News. Jailbreak and Are You Telepathic are two shows hosted live on "reality TV."

Stayt first appeared on BBC Breakfast in 2006 as a relief host, but then in December 2007, he was confirmed as the Sunday-Sunday presenter. He has been the weekend host for BBC Breakfast, the early morning news show on BBC One and BBC News, since January 2008. He joined the program in Salford and appeared on the programme from Thursday-Saturday with Naga Munchetty, as well as being in for main weekday host Dan Walker.

Stayt appeared in Dictionary Corner on Channel 4's Countdown in August 2016 for a number of episodes.
