QUENTIN LETTS: Esther McVey, a snapping that looks like Lily Savage, has clocked him down in a trice

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 23, 2023
QUENTIN LETTS: It was International Men's Day last weekend, when the world's sniffling milquetoasts had their moment. For 24 hours, once a year, everyone must be courteous to Walter the Softy. Oliver Dowden, as we say him at Westminster, is a speaker. Mr Dowden, rather surprisingly, is the deputy prime minister. A drippier tap would be difficult to find. Or, you may recall 'La-Di-Dah' Gunner Graham, the pianist in It Ain't Half Hot Mum, or Charles Hawtrey, star of Carry On films. Both, in comparison to Mr Dowden, were muscular creations. As Mr Dowden is well-known in Whitehall, he was flapping in the Commons for morning questions, accompanied by several ministerial colleagues.' A mallard with her ducklings. Among those underlings - not that they would quite see themselves as that - was Esther McVey, newly restored to Downing Street

Going, going, carry on!Iconic film posters from cheeky Carry On comedy film series sell for more than £12,000 at auction

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 10, 2023
The brash banners from the bawdy British 60s classics are known for their seaside postcard-style humour and smuttiness. Despite being a little grubby and selling for three times its estimate, the risque poster for 1963 caper Carry On Cabby (left) shocked auctioneers. In the cab with Sid James thumbing a lift, a 30 by 40 inch poster depicts a yellow Glamcab being push by a female taxi driver, as well as caricatures of actors Kenneth Connor, Hattie Jacques, Charles Hawtrey, and Esma Cannon. At Ewbank's vintage posters auction on Friday, August 4, it defeated its initial £700-1,000 estimate and went for £2,210. The poster from Carry On Spying (right) eclipsed its £500-800 estimate to sell for £1,690

We Brits have finally learned how to...Carry On Abroad!

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 11, 2022
For example, a remark made by an older person long before Brexit was, "I don't want to go abroad, never have"; People used to remark formally, 'Good old England,' bringing it into a patriotic sense.' Keep your money in this world, I say.' These quotations are excerpted from Lucy Lethbridge's Tourists, where the main theme is our reluctance to experience foreign countries.
