Cathal Pendred, an Irish actor, is a fictional character in the film The Irmo.

He is also a former mixed martial artist who competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's Welterweight division.

He was the Cage Warriors Welterweight World Champion.

Personal life

Pendred was educated at Belvedere College, Dublin, and received a Leinster Senior Cup medal in 2005, alongside future Irish internationals Cian Healy and Ian Keatley.

Pendred received a Bachelor's degree in Analytical Science at Dublin City University, where he concentrated on forensics.

In April 2014, Cathal was seen carrying a baby dolphin into the ocean. The dolphin had been stranded and was unable to return to deep enough water on its own. This photograph went viral soon after the incident when a dolphin was carried into the sea by a photographer holding it in his arms. The tale was then chronicled around the world.

Pendred graduated from Dublin City University with a master's degree in climate change in March 2022.

Cathal was the subject of "Pendred," a 2013 MTV UK mini-documentary.

Pendred became the first UFC fighter to endorse an anti-domestic violence group in 2015. He led a movement that highlighted the positive role that men can have in preventing domestic violence of women and children. Pendred spoke about the importance of men in preventing bullying in a viral YouTube video during the campaign.

Mixed martial arts career

Pendred began his professional career in 2009. After winning the national championship in 2010, he became Ireland's number one ranked welterweight. After defeating title holder Gael Grimaud in London, England, he became the Cage Warriors Welterweight Champion in March 2013.

Pendred was chosen as a cast member of the nineteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter on March 25th. He was then selected as the third pick for the middleweights on coach BJ Penn's staff.

Pendred defeated Team Edgar middleweight Urbina in the quarter-final rounds. After three rounds, Pendred defeated Urbina by a byelection. In the semi-finals, Pendred defeated Eddie Gordon. He was disqualified by a split decision in the fight.

Pendred faced Team Penn's Mike King at middleweight at UFC Fight Night 46 on July 19, 2014. He was deemed victorious in the second round of the competition. Mike King and Richard Coveney were given 'Fight of the Night' honors for their victory. The King would later fail the drug test, resulting in his half of the award going to Pendred.

Pendred has been dropped from the welterweight division, where he defeated Gasan Umalatov on October 4 at UFC Fight Night: Nelson vs. Story. He beat Umalatov by a split decision.

Pendred next faced Sean Spencer at UFC Fight Night 59 on January 18, 2015. Pendred was voted unanimously in a tumultuous election. Both Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg had hoped Spencer had dominated the fight and announced on air how baffling the decision was made; later UFC president Dana White echoed this sentiment on air; later UFC president Dana White echoed this sentiment. In addition, all 15 major MMA media outlets rated Spencer in favor of him.

Pendred was defeated by Augusto Montao on June 13, 2015 at UFC 188. He was voted unanimously by the time. In the post-fight drug test, Montao's testosterone metabolites were positive.

Pendred was briefly suspended as a short notice replacement at UFC 189 on July 11, 2015. He was disqualified by a split decision in the fight.

Pendred next met Tom Breese at UFC Fight Night 76 on October 24, 2015. In the first round, Pendred lost by TKO.

On November 25, Pendred announced that he would step down from MMA.

Acting career

Pendred had been cast in a lead role in the Amazon-produced television series Lore, which is based on the famous podcast of the same name. In the horror anthology film, Pendred will play Michael Cleary, a true-life character from Irish folklore. Michael is married to the younger Bridget (played by Holland Roden). When Bridget starts making more money than he does and starts questioning his choices, Michael is convinced that his loving wife has been replaced by a stranger. Lore premiered on October 13, 2017.
