She began to appear in BBC comedy films, including The Persuaders, Morecambe, and Wise, as an extra.

Monty Python's Flying Circus' production team was attracted by her comedic performance. She appeared in 30 of the series's 45 episodes as well as all four Monty Python films. Cleveland has been involved in many post-Python programs, including the Concert for George and Not the Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy). She has also appeared in several documentaries about the company's history, including Monty Python: Almost the Truth (Lawyers Cut).

In 1972, Cleveland was ranked number three on Splendor magazine's "Most Beautiful Entertainers" list.

Cleveland appeared in the episode "The Miracle of Peckham" in 1986, and then in 1995, the Cleveland Comedian produced a small cameo in a sketch starring Stewart Lee and Richard Herring. Cleveland appeared on an episode of First Dates in 2022.

The second and final series ended more than 40 years ago, but Monty Python actor John Cleese, 83, will produce new episodes of the former BBC show with his comedian daughter Camilla Cleese, 39. Carol Cleveland, who appeared in 30 episodes of Monty Python's Flying Circus and all four of their films, was 'delighted.'
