Caelynn Marie Miller-Keyes (born June 15, 1995) is an American television presenter, model, and beauty pageant champion.

Since appearing on season 23 of The Bachelor, Miller-Keyes received national recognition.

Miller-Keyes had been named Miss Virginia Teen USA 2013 and Miss North Carolina USA 2018, as well as the first runner-up at the Miss USA 2018 tournament.

Early life and education

Miller-Keyes was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to parents Jerry Keyes and Jai-leah Miller; she was raised by her mother and stepfather John Kamenicky. Both her mother and maternal grandmother are Native Americans, who are members of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. In Los Angeles, her paternal grandmother was the first woman to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was diagnosed with encephalitis as an infant and was told by doctors that she had only a 10% chance of walking again; she eventually recovered completely. Miller-Keyes attended Stafford Senior High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she majored in broadcast journalism. Miller-Keyes went from Virginia to Asheville, North Carolina, where she began as a social media strategist prior to winning Miss North Carolina USA.

Personal life

Miller-Keyes, the Miss North Carolina USA, revealed that she was a survivor of sexual assault and had embraced sexual harassment education as her primary point of protest during the Miss USA tournament. Miller-Keyes debating her assault on season 23 of The Bachelor, revealing that it occurred during her sophomore year of college when she and some friends were drugged and assaulted by a group of boys she was friends with. Miller-Keyes had indecent photos of her taken while incapacitated. Miller-Keyes reached out for a rape kit and was turned away by the first hospital, but the second hospital's inquiry was inconclusive due to the time that had passed since the assault. One of her attackers was suspended from school, while others were left unpunished.

During season six of Bachelor in Paradise, Miller-Keyes developed a relationship with Dean Unglert. They bought a house in Summerlin, Nevada, where they will be permanently relocating in April. In October 2022, the two were married.

Career

Miller-Keyes' pageantry career began at the age of 16, after competing in Miss Virginia Teen USA 2013 in Miss Virginia Teen USA. She appeared in the Miss Greater Fairfax Teen USA 2013 preliminary pageant and finished second, runner-up, before competing and winning the Miss Arlington County Teen USA 2013 preliminary a month later. She then went on to win the state title on her first attempt, and represented Virginia at Miss Teen USA 2013, Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. Miller-keyes ultimately did not qualify in the pageant, but Cassidy Wolf of California took the pageant, and the pageant was ultimately dominated by Cassidy Wolf of California. Olivia Fletcher was later crowned by Miller-Keyes as her successor at the end of her reign.

Several years after winning Miss Virginia Teen USA, Miller-Keyes returned to pageantry and 2017 as the third runner-up and first runner-up to Desilee Carroll and Jacqueline Carroll, respectively. Miller-Keyes competed in Miss North Carolina USA 2018, representing Asheville, where she ended up winning the title and being crowned by outgoing titleholder Katie Coble in North Carolina. Miss North Carolina USA, Miller-Keyes, was granted the opportunity to represent North Carolina at the Miss USA 2018 competition, held in Shreveport, Louisiana. Miller-Keyes, a Miss USA student, argued for her sexual harassment education. She continued to place as the first runner-up in the competition, behind eventual winner Sarah Rose Summers of Nebraska. Miller-Keyes was unable to crown her successor after her time on The Bachelor due to filming commitments. Cheslie Kryst, her replacement, was crowned by Miss North Carolina Teen USA 2018 Kaaviya Sambasivam.

Miller-Keyes was cast in season 23 of The Bachelor, starring former professional football player Colton Underwood. Miller-Keyes was revealed as a contestant by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) during fall 2018 and the season's filming took place. Hannah Brown, another contestant, was named Miss Alabama USA 2018 and was Miller-Keyes' roommate at Miss USA.

Miller-Keyes spoke to Underwood on January 28, 2019 episode of the season, explaining how she had trouble opening up and trusteding men for a short period of time. Since the episode aired, Miller-Keyes received a lot of attention and praise from media outlets, with outlets identifying their broadcasting of their interview as support for the Me Too campaign. Miller-Keyes finished fourth in the season on record, despite being cut by Underwood during the show's hometown dates segment, which aired on February 25, 2019. She started appearing on season six of Bachelor in Paradise in August 2019, before deciding to leave the show with boyfriend Dean Unglert on September 9, 2019.
