Early life

Bridget Masinga was born and raised in Durban, South Africa, to parents Elvis Jabulani Masinga and Patricia Zodwa Roberson (who divorced early in her life). She was one of the first students to enroll in Addington Primary School; the school welcomed non-white scholars right away. Masinga enrolled in Ridge Park College, the school from which she would later attend matriculation. "I was a prefect in Grade 12 and member of the drama club, but I used to avoid sports all the time," she says.

Masinga began studying for a Master's Degree in Media Studies at Boston Media House after finishing her matric year. Nevertheless, she was forced to suspend studying of the degree in her second year due to a lack of funds.

Production company and further education

Masinga took a break from all work duties in order to devote her time to the construction of her production house, Bridget Productions, following the shootings for Rockville and Isibaya. Since its inception in 2012, the company has concentrated on producing documentary content focusing on African tales (work that is written, produced, and directed by African talents) and has collaborated with Mandla Mandela (Mandla Mandela).

Masinga is also studying for a Bachelor of Arts; Government, Admin and Development, as well as Human Resource development from the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Personal life

Masinga married Thabiso Khati in 2009, but the two divorced in April 2015.

Career

Masinga signed with Fork Models in 1997, where she started participating in the likes of Durban Fashion Week and spearheaded MTN Africa, Edgars South Africa, and Levi's Jeans.

A 21-year-old Masinga competed in the Miss South Africa pageant in 2002 (the year M-Net decided to run a 4 episode reality formatted program as a lead-up to the live finale). She came in third place, as the 2nd runner up, and she cites her participation in the pageant as the beginning of her career as well as what would be a long-running friendship with M-Net.

2003 - 2005

Masinga was relocated to Johannesburg, where she continued to work with M-Net after the conclusion of the Miss South Africa reality show. Despite unsuccessfully auditioning for the first season of Idols South Africa, the producer of the televised vocal competition (Gavin Wratten, who also happened to have supervised the Miss South Africa pageant) told Masinga of a forthcoming venture by the name of Go! A youth-focused television channel that was supposed to be broadcast on DStv. Masinga remained with the channel from 2003 to 2006.
