Brian Shaw Life

Brian Keith Shaw (born March 22, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player and former head coach for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He could play both guard positions, but was used primarily at point guard over the course of his 14 seasons in the league.

Early life

Shaw grew up in Oakland, California with other future basketball stars such as Antonio Davis, Jason Kidd, and Gary Payton, as well as Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell. In his youth, he was a participant at the East Oakland Youth Development Center, a local community organization where he played basketball. He attended Westlake Middle School and then Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland. For college, he attended St. Mary's College of California for his freshman and sophomore years of college, then transferred to UC Santa Barbara for his junior and senior seasons. In his senior year, he was named Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA) player of the year as he led the Gauchos to their first-ever NCAA tournament berth.

Personal life

On June 26, 1993, both of Shaw's parents and his sister were killed in a car accident in Nevada. His sister's daughter survived the crash and Shaw, with help from his aunt, helped raise her.

Shaw reportedly dated Madonna when he played for the Miami Heat. Shaw has three children with his wife, Nikki Shaw, who is a professional chef. They met when he was signed as a free agent by the Orlando Magic in 1994 and they married in 1998.

Brian Shaw Career

Playing career

In the 1988 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics selected him as the 24th overall pick. Shaw began a one-year relationship with the Celtics in 1988. Shaw signed a two-year contract in 1989 to play with Il Messaggero Roma, an Italian team. Shaw committed to the Celtics for five years at the end of January 1990. Shaw told the Celtics in June that he intended to play for Il Messaggero during the 1990-91 season. The ensuing labor battle, Boston Celtics vs. Brian Shaw, which Shaw lost, became a common sports law issue and is read in many law school classroom classes.

He appeared with the Celtics, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers throughout his NBA career. He was a member of four squads that made NBA Finals appearances: 1995 with the Magic, 2001, and 2002 with the Lakers (winning three NBA championships with the Lakers).

He competed for the US national team in the 1986 FIBA World Championship, winning the gold medal. Shaw scored a crucial three-pointer in the closing seconds in the final between the US and Soviet Union. The American team took the game by two points.

Shaw joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 1999, reuniting with former Orlando teammate Shaquille O'Neal. As the Lakers had the league's best record in winning 67 games, he served as a back-up to All-Star shooting guard Kobe Bryant throughout the season and playoffs. Shaw appeared in all 22 of the Lakers' playoff games before losing to the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals. Before the Trail Blazers captured games 5 and 6, the Lakers took the lead in the series, tying the series at three games apiece. In game 7, the Trail Blazers lead 7-60 in the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, the Blazers exploded 5 for 23 points after being boosted by two critical three-point baskets from Shaw. To face the Indiana Pacers, the Lakers won the game and advanced to the NBA Finals. Shaw stepped up in game 3 in place of the injured Bryant and then played crucial minutes in the Lakers' overtime win in game 4. Shaw was named the NBA champion in Lakers' 4–2, and Shaw won his first NBA championship.

Shaw continued to back up Bryant in the 2000-01 season, but the team has only played in 28 games. In the 2001 NBA Finals, he was a key role for the Lakers as they thrashed the Philadelphia 76ers 4–1. In the 2001–02 season, the Lakers won their third championship before losing in the Western Conference Semifinals to the San Antonio Spurs, and Shaw then resigned following the season.

Coaching career

Shaw resigned after the 2002-03 season. During the 2003–04 season, he worked for the Lakers as an Oakland-based scout. During the 2004-2005 season, he was named assistant coach of the Lakers. Following Phil Jackson's demise, he was considered for the Lakers' head coaching position, but Mike Brown was ultimately dismissed in favour of Mike Brown.

Shaw left the Lakers to join the Indiana Pacers as an assistant coach. He was later promoted to associate head coach. Shaw was regarded as a highly respected assistant coach by other NBA coaches as well as the public.

Shaw was appointed as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets on June 25, 2013, after two years on the Pacers' bench, replacing former coach George Karl. He was fired by the Nuggets on March 3, 2015, after compiling a record of 56–85 (.397) in just under two seasons.

Shaw rejoined the Los Angeles Lakers as the team's new associate head coach under new head coach Luke Walton's coaching staff in June 2016.

Shaw was appointed as the inaugural head coach of the G League Ignite on June 10, 2020. He led the team to an 8-8 record and a playoff berth, but he resigned after the season.

Shaw was announced as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers on September 24, 2021.

As environment managers begin to look for the perpetrator, flytippers dump 100 tyres on Loch Ness' shores

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 30, 2024
After flytippers deposited hundreds of tyres on the shores of Loch Ness at a lay-by on the A82, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency has investigated the matter. Staff at Ness District Salmon Fishery Board in Scotland discovered a pile of used tyres.

After CCTV ensnared her, a NHS nurse, 47, who stabbed herself outside a hospital and pretended she was the perpetrator of a 'random attack' in a warped plot to demand compensation, was found guilty of wasting police time

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 11, 2024
A nurse who stabbed herself outside a hospital before claiming to be the perpetrator of a 'random assault' in a compensation lawsuit has been found guilty of wasting police time. Donna Maxwell, 47, of Irvine (left and right) said she was assaulted by a mentally ill patient outside Ailsa Hospital (inset) in Ayr in November 2018. The horrific shooting culminated in an innocent woman being arrested in front of a court before being released. But the NHS health worker's web of lies came crashing down when the jury saw CCTV footage of her purchasing the weapon from Tesco. During a four-day trial in Ayr Sheriff Court, Maxwell maintained that she was the perpetrator of a 'random attack.' However, a jury found her not guilty of a pack of fibs after hearing evidence that she conducted internet searches for 'claim compensation,' before plunging the knife into her own abdomen.

Loch Ness Monstered? In the fear of damaging fish - and possibly even Nessie - a movement has been launched to prevent the construction of any more pumped storage hydro schemes in the water

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 5, 2024
A movement has been launched in the Loch Ness water calling for an immediate halt in the construction of further pumped storage hydro schemes due to concerns that it may endangered the species of wild fish. According to the Ness District Salmon Fishery Board (DSFB), dramatic shifts in the level of the loch as a result of hydro power'industrialization' could result in death for the fragile ecosystem and the Ness' already beleaguered wild salmon. The campaign came after the submission of a planning request for the Loch Pump storage initiative by Statera and the acquisition of the previously approved Red John project by Europe's biggest hydro power generator Statkraft. More than 500 signatures have been collected in a week by a petition calling for a halt on new and larger developments on Loch Ness. The monster is seen on camera, right.
