Brandon Heath Knell (born July 21, 1978) is an American contemporary Christian musician, singer, and songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee.

Early life
Brandon Heath Knell was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 21, 1978. His father was a police officer, and his mother was a hair stylist. Heath was raised by his divorced mother for five or six years before she remarried. His parents divorced when he was three years old, and his stepmother remarried. Heath said he became angry toward his family early in life, but in high school, he converted to Christianity in order to learn forgiveness and then give it to his parents.
He was given a guitar as a Christmas gift at the age of 13, and at the same time he began writing his first songs. Heath was a member of his school, Hillsboro High School in Nashville, and was encouraged by his teacher to pursue music by his teacher. He also expanded his spiritual horizons by going on faith missions to India and Ecuador, putting the emphasis on faith and music that would soon fuel his professional life.
Heath grew up nonreligiously, but a young boy was invited to attend Malibu Club, a Christian Young Life camp. Heath said he heard about Jesus for the first time while attending the camp; he said that Young Life "showed me Christ and got me plugged in to a church" while attending Malibu Club at age 16. He was a leader for the camp after high school and is now a member of Young Life in the United States. Heath earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Middle Tennessee State University. He started a demo CD of his songs for sale after being robbed in early 2000 in order to pay for a new guitar.
Personal life
Heath moved to The Woodlands, Texas, in 2008 and spent a year as a worship leader at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. He liked being a part of a non-profit organization, and once said he felt "at home" from the moment he stepped off the plane. Since returning to Nashville to dedicate more time to his musical work and be closer to family, he has returned to his hometown to be closer to family. He still considers Texas to be his second home and visits when he has the opportunity.

Heath's first demo CD from 2000 was reissued in 2004 as an independent album titled Early Stuff. Soldier, Chris Davis' second independent album, came out this year. On September 5, 2006, Heath's debut, Don't Get Comfortable, was released. "Our God Reigns" was his first radio single from the album, receiving a 2007 Dove Award nomination for Worship Song of the Year.
