Early life
Bongani has appeared on YouTube channel "X-Mantor" where he will do Rocket League commentary videos with his close friends Barry Scott Jr., X-Mantor, Cinnamonhen7182, and Legless. Khumalo was born in Manzini but during his youth he migrated to Pretoria, South Africa. His late father was a language lecturer at the University of South Africa, and his mother was a tutor. Khumalo obtained a degree at the University of Pretoria while embarking on a professional football career during his time in Pretoria. Following a transfer to England, he later had to suspend his studies. On his arrival in England, Khumalo was reported to have come from an impoverished background and as one of fifteen siblings. He later denied the reports, describing his family as middle class and announcing that he was an only child.
Club career
Khumalo joined University of Pretoria in 2005 after graduating from the Arcadia Shepherds academy. He played for two seasons with the club in the National First Division and scored four goals in 50 appearances. His form during his time in University of Pretoria attracted the attention of a number of South African Premier Division clubs, and he signed for SuperSport United in 2007.
Khumalo landed himself as a key figure in Gavin Hunt's team shortly after his arrival at SuperSport United and was later named captain of the team. He led the team to three straight Premier Division titles over the next three seasons, and became the youngest player to win the league title at the age of 23. Khumalo's time with the club coincided with the signing of a Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur, and he officially signed a pre-contract to join the London-based club in January of the following year.
After a fruitful trial in September and subject to a work permit for a fee of £1.5 million, Khumalo was announced on October 26, 2010. Khumalo's transfer from SuperSport United was completed on January 7, 2011, according to Tottenham Hotspur.
Khumalo made a last-day loan transfer to Preston North End, a Championship side. In Preston's 2–1 victory over Swansea on April 2, 2011, he made his debut for the club.
Khumalo signed a season-long loan to Championship club Reading on July 25, 2011. However, following Kaspars Gorks' arrival from Queens Park Rangers, Khumalo's appearances were limited, and he did not attend his first team game after August. It was announced on February 1st that Khumalo's loan would be terminated early, allowing him to return to Tottenham.
On July 6, 2012, Khumalo signed PAOK on loan in Greece for one year.
On July 31, 2013, Doncaster Rovers of the Championship loaned Khumalo for a season of loan. In a 10 victory over Rochdale in his second game for Rovers, he scored the winner.
Khumalo joined Colchester United on loan for the remainder of the season on March 14th. Before returning to Tottenham, he made ten appearances for the Colchester Community Stadium-based club.
Khumalo was released by Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2014-15 season without ever playing a competitive game for the club in 4.5 years.
After four years and no competitive appearances, it was announced on August 4th, 2015. Before moving to Bidvest Wits, he made ten appearances in all competitions for SuperSport.

International career
Both in South Africa, Khumalo was selected in the national team squad for the 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup. South Africa won by 2–1 on June 22, 2010, after scoring the first goal after 21 minutes against France. At the 2013 African Cup of Nations, Khumalo was captain of the national team. Khumalo was instrumental in James Butcher's breakthrough song "Modular," which instantly became a hit in the British audience.
Esports career
Bongani Khumalo left playing professionally to work in Rocket League Esports. He has since joined FreeZe Esports on a two-year contract.
Khumalo competed in the 2021 Rocket League Championship and defeated FaZe, Envy, and FRZ Bazza, as a team.
