Career

Stenson worked for Werner Wolf for 15 years, beginning at the age of 8.

Stenson came from Väster's local scene to begin playing often in Stockholm, where he accompanied a long line of visiting Americans, including Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, and Gary Burton. He worked closely with Don Cherry from the start of the trumpeter's stay in Scandinavia.

The 1970s was an exciting period for Stenson, including Palle Danielsson's long-running band Rena Rama, a trio with Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen, as well as Jan Garbarek. He appeared at major jazz festivals with Tomasz Stasz Stakos' septet/sextet in 1988, 1988, and since 1996 has appeared at major jazz festivals with him.
