Beverley Jane McEwan (née Moxon, Sowden, and Callard, born 28 March 1957) is an English actress best known for her appearance in ITV's Coronation Street and a Packet of Crisps.

Personal life

Callard, a 16-year-old boy who later became pregnant, married Paul Atkinson in 1974. She later miscarried. Rebecca Callard, a daughter who later became an actress, was the couple's first child two years ago. The couple divorced a year later, with Callard later stating, "we were too young." He had an alcohol-fueled violent personality."

Callard married David Sowden, an economics professor, in 1980. Callard had an abortion during his marriage. The two couples were adamantly divorced in 1988. Callard was pregnant in 1989 to Steve Callard, and the pair married. Joshua was their son when he was born in 1990. Steve's infidelity began when Callard was recovering from cervical cancer treatment.

Callard's pay, as well as other Coronation Street cast members, will be cut due to the credit crunch in 2008. She lost 40% of her income.

Callard talked about her nervous breakdown in 2009 and her anxiety in 2016.

Callard lived in Eccles, Greater Manchester, with her fourth husband, Jon McEwan. They married at the Hazelwood Castle Hotel, near Leeds, on October 30, 2010. They migrated to Norfolk in 2022.

She is a vegan.

Callard made her acting debut as Darius the page child at the age of seven. She began working as a shorthand typist after graduating from high school in 1973. Jackie Coryton, a young actress who performed in No.l Coward's Hay Fever, Liz and Rita, as Dorothy Coryton in Billy Liar and The Wicked Queen in Snow White, later returned to acting and appeared on stage as Jackie Coryton. Callard made her television debut (as Beverley Sowden) in the Yorkshire television soap Emmerdale Farm as Angie Richards in 1983. Hinge & Bracket: Dear Ladies, Hells Bells, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, and The Practice followed.

Real Results, Rapid Results, Ultimate Results, and Lasting Results are among her books and exercise videos published by Sherry. She appeared on GMTV and This Morning, as well as having a fitness section in the Daily Mirror.

Barbara appeared on the BBC sitcom The Peter Principle in 2000. Callard appeared as Flo Henshaw in the BBC Three sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and spent two years in the role. During this period, she appeared on Sky1's Mile High. Callard appeared on ITV's talk show Loose Women from June to December 2010.

She had intended to appear in the Christmas pantomime Sleeping Beauty at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield, but had to cancel due to undisclosed health reasons. Margi Clarke, her former Coronation Street co-star, was subsequently replaced by her. In a British touring production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, she appeared onstage for the second time in 2012. In 2019, she appeared in a touring version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Liverpool Empire.

Callard will be included in the twentieth series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here," in November 2020. On the 30th of November, Callard became the third celebrity to be voted out alongside Victoria Derbyshire.

Callard has appeared in Gold comedy Newark, Newark, Newark, since March 2022 as Pauline.

Callard played Gail (Helen Worth) and Brian Tilsley's (Christopher Quinten) friend June Dewhurst in Coronation Street in 1984. In 1989, she returned to the series in the more prominent role of Liz McDonald. Callard's first appearance as Liz aired on October 27, 1989. Liz McDonald's reputation has since been tarnished, a kidnap perpetrator, a harassed mother, and an unfaithful spouse. Callard resigned from Coronation Street in November 1998 to work on her other teaching skills and spend more time with her family. She returned to Coronation Street in 2003. Callard had returned to Coronation Street in March 2011 after a short break in November 2010. She left Coronation Street in April 2011 for good. Liz McDonald's role was reprised on television on May 30, 2013; she returned to screen on October 14th, 2013. Callard declared a two-month absence from the series in March 2016 as a result of her ongoing battle with clinical depression. In May 2016, she returned to filming. Callard resigned from Coronation Street in November 2019. In 2020, she will have seen her last scenes.
