Patsy Palmer Life

Julie Anne Merkell (nee Harris), born 26 May 1972), also known as Patsy Palmer, is an English actress and DJ who is best known for her appearances in the children's drama series Grange Hill and Bianca Jackson in the BBC soap opera EastEnders.

She appeared in the series from 1993 to 1999 before returning to EastEnders in 2008 and then moving to 2014 in 2014.

Bianca Jackson resurfaced in 2019 for a brief period of time in the fall.

Early life

Palmer was born in Bethnal Green, East London, and he grew up. She attended Globe Primary School and then Haggerston Girls Secondary School.

Albert and Harry, her two older brothers, were brought up by her mother Pat. Georgia and Berty are also her half-sisters. Her mother first noticed her acting talent and encouraged her to attend Anna Scher's acting school in London. Palmer was bullied at school and has said that acting was a form of escape. She appeared in a West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at age six.

Personal life

Palmer is close friends with Sid Owen (Ricky Butcher) and Danniella Westbrook (Sam Mitchell). Charley (born 1992) (from Palmer's time with boxer Alfie Rothwell); Fenton (born 2000), Emilia (born 2001), and Bertie (born 2010). She lived in Western Terrace and then Kemptown, Brighton, England, for ten years, beginning in 2004. Harry Harris, the actress who played her on-screen mother Carol Jackson in EastEnders, is married to Lindsey Coulson. Palmer and the majority of her family immigrated to Malibu, California, near Los Angeles, in April 2014. When settling down, she made friends with Camille Grammer and Cindy Crawford.

Palmer has said she has been a heroin and alcohol addict, and that during her 1990s stint on EastEnders, she would often be seen on set whether high or hungover. She began using alcohol and drugs from the age of 10, and her heroin use spanned 24 years. She appeared that she had been free of opioids and alcohol since September 2004 and that "We don't have alcohol in our house."

Palmer suffered with bullying throughout her youth. Because of this, she gave her help with the Department of Education's anti-bullying campaign in 2000. She is a generous supporter of Children's Cancer Charity CLIC Sargent.

Albert Harris, Palmer's late father, was an Irishman.

Patsy Palmer Career

Career

Palmer adopted her new name after enrolling at the Anna Scher Theatre Academy and learning about an excellent actress by the name Julie Harris, making her mother's maiden name and modifying her given name to her mother's pet name, Patsy. Palmer made her screen debut in 1984 with the television series The Gentle Touch. Palmer appeared on the children's drama show Grange Hill from 1985 to 1987, as many other EastEnders actors. She went on to play small parts in BBC's Tricky Business (1989), Love Hurts (1991), Drop the Dead Donkey (1993), and The Bill (1993), and she also appeared as an acne-ridden teen in a Clearasil commercial.

In 1993, she appeared in the role of feisty Bianca Jackson in BBC's soap opera EastEnders. Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen)'s on-screen marriage in 1997 drew one of the nation's biggest soap audiences ever — more than 22 million. She served in the role for six years, but then resigned in 1999 to spend more time with her family and concentrate on other projects. In May 2002, she appeared in a special titled "EastEnders: Ricky and Bianca." The two-part, hour-long special was shot in Manchester, which reunited Bianca and Ricky for the first time in over two years.

Palmer also sluggish and frightened EastEnders in 2005, claiming that she "wouldn't go back to EastEnders" instead. However, Palmer would return to the soap in October 2007 as a full-time character; she made her comeback on screen in April 2008. Palmer said, "I can't wait to hear what Bianca has been doing with her life and seeing what she's going to do next," and EastEnders executive producer, Diederick Santer added, "I'm delighted to welcome Patsy Palmer home to EastEnders." Bianca is one of the show's most popular characters. Palmer revealed in 2014 that she was leaving the series. In the fall of 2019, she reprised her role as a writer for a brief time. Palmer would reprise her role as Bianca once more in February 2020, with scenes scheduled to air later this year. However, this was later suspended due to Coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

Palmer appeared on 'No Limit' on Top of the Pops' Christmas Day 1993, with host Mark Franklin.

Palmer appeared in the first series of OK television with Fiona Phillips in 1999. She was first introduced to the series in a beauty salon where she had her hair shampooed and interviewed Lindsay Coulson, who played her fictional mother Carol Jackson in EastEnders. Palmer made a cameo appearance in a Gimme Gimme episode in 1999; it mocked her role as Bianca Jackson. Clare was portrayed as Clare in the detective series McCready and Daughter, which aired on a pilot and one series between 2000 and 2001. In 2004, she appeared in He Knew He Was Right for the BBC, and in 2001 she appeared in Do or Die, a television mini-series that aired on Sky One.

She has appeared on stage in the one-woman musical Tell Me On A Sunday, which toured the UK, and appeared in London's West End. She appeared in Mum's the Word's original West End run, and appeared in We Happy Few by Imogen Stubbs, a short run at the Giel Theatre.

For a week in 1999, Palmer was in for GMTV's Lorraine Kelly, presenting her Lorraine Live section in Miami. She has also co-hosted Channel 4's Big Breakfast as a guest host for a week. Patsy Palmer – The Club Workout (2000), Patsy Palmer – The Urban Workout (2002), and Patsy Palmer's Ibiza Workout (2002). Palmer appeared in The Allstar Workout, a charity fitness DVD released in 2006. Palmer's film career includes the shorts Love Story (1999) directed by Nick Love (1999) and Another Green World (2004) directed by Peter Chipping.

Palmer appeared on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing show in 2005 to raise funds for the Children in Need fund. Catherine Tate's sketch show The Catherine Tate Exhibition has also appeared on her. She was a jury member on BBC show The Verdict, in which many celebrities were found to have ruled on a recent and controversial topic based on facts and stories from real life.

All of Me was published in the United Kingdom on April 5, 2007. She talked about her ascension to fame, her fight with heroin, and how she battled to overcome her difficulties in the book. Palmer and her companion, Charlotte Cutler, went into business with Ken Wells and a Kent-based chemical firm in 2003 to produce "Palmer Cutler," a line that sells beauty and self-tanning products.

Housing and homelessness charity Shelter launched Palmer's short film in 2008. Palmer has been DJing since 2012, most recently in the United States since 2017. Palmer debuted as the Butterfly on the ITV reality singing competition The Masked Singer in January 2020. Palmer appeared in the third series of The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off in March.
