Ben Sahar Life

Ben Sahar (born 10 August 1989) is an Israeli professional footballer who plays for the Hapoel Be'er Sheva and the Israel national football team. Sahar, a second-year apprentice at Chelsea, was first caught Chelsea staff's attention during a Under-16 match against Ireland in 2004.

Since being a member of the Israeli Under-21 national team and the Israeli national team, he has competed for both the Israeli Under-21 national team and the Israeli national team.

He was on the Hapoel Tel Aviv books before moving to Chelsea, and although he was promoted to the first team by Itzhak Shum, he did not appear in any games since his transfer was completed before the 2006–07 season.

Early life

Sahar was born in Holon, Israel, to a Jewish family. His father, who is of Sephardic Jewish (Tunisian-Jewish) descent, and his mother teaches sports are Israeli-born and educated. He grew up in Modi'in, Israel. He obtained a Polish passport before his transfer to Chelsea F.C., owing to his Israeli-born mother, who is of Ashkenazi Jewish (Polish-Jewish, and Latvian-Jewish), who made him eligible to play as a non-foreigner in EU leagues, including the United Kingdom.

Sahar, an Israeli citizen, was supposed to return to Israel for a three-year stint in the IDF. However, Israeli lawmakers were negotiating on a bill (nicknamed "The Ben Sahar Law") that would have allowed Sahar to complete a national service (Sherut Leumi) in England instead. The bill did not pass, and as a result, Sahar was recruited into the Israel Defense Forces. He had to visit his military base every time he was on vacation in Israel under the terms of his military service.

Ben Sahar Career

Club career

Sahar began playing football in Modi'in, Israel, where he grew up. He was enrolled in the Sportop Football Academy before joining the youth of Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Sahar joined Chelsea of the English Premier League in May 2006 after having previously spent a two-month period at Stamford Bridge.

In the FA Cup's first team to face Macclesfield Town on January 6, 2007, Sahar made his debut as a replacement for Salomon Kalou in the 76th minute. Sahar appeared as a replacement in Chelsea's 1–1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers in the League Cup, four days later. Arjen Robben was first on the bench in his Premiership debut on January 13, 2007 and he was recalled in the 82nd minute of the match against Wigan Athletic. He made two additional Premier League substitute appearances for the Blues this season, against Manchester United and Everton.

On July 26, 2007, Sahar joined then Championship side Queens Park Rangers on loan for the first three months of the 2007–08 season. He finished off his pre-season friendly against Premier League side Fulham, earning them a 2–1 victory. His loan agreement was then extended to 2 January 2008. Sahar sustained a number of injuries during his time in the league and did not manage to score in his nine league appearances.

Sheffield Wednesday completed the sale of Sahar on January 21, 2008, after Sahar recovered from an injury-plagued spell at QPR. This was extended until 19 April and then until the end of the season on May 4th. On March 22, 2008, Sahar scored his first goal for Sheffield Wednesday against Crystal Palace. He continued this attack against Scunthorpe United and Norwich City. Sheffield Wednesday's survival in the Championship was vital because it guaranteed the team's survival.

In his second loan spell in the Championship, Sahar scored three goals from 12 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.

Sahar was in the Netherlands on June 12, 2008, to discuss another season-long loan with Dutch club NEC Nijmegen. However, a deal could not be reached with Sahar due to financial constraints, according to NEC officials. Rather, he agreed to a six-month loan agreement with FA Cup champion Portsmouth, and on July 1st, he was officially unveiled as a Portsmouth player. On July 1, 2008, Sahar signed Portsmouth on a six-month loan contract and was given the number 26 shirt. He appeared and scored against Kano Pillars, Conference South side Havant & Waterlooville, and Southern Football League Division One South & West side Gosport Borough in pre-season.

However, Sahar was forced to endure yet another ineffective loan term. Despite being in several of Portsmouth's pre-season games, Sahar did not appear once for Portsmouth; he was an unused substitute in three of their matches. "If I had played a few games and they said I wasn't strong enough, fine." However, the truth is that I haven't been given the opportunity to shine," Sahar expressed dissatisfaction with his inability to have one opportunity to prove himself.

On January 2, 2009, Sahar joined De Graafschap on loan. He was a player for De Graafschap until the season's end. In a friendly against Turkish club Sivasspor, he played his first match for De Graafschap. In a friendly match against Belgian team K.V., he scored his first two goals for De Graafschap. Mechelen was a shipwright from Mechelen. In his debut match against Willem II, he scored his first goal in the Economia on January 17, 2009. After passing a defender in the 18-yard (16 m) box, Sahar received a pass from Luuk de Jong and then curled the shot into the top corner. Roda JC, his second goal in an away game against fellow relegation flops, scored his second goal. In a home game against SC Heerenveen, De Graafschap scored his third goal. After good play from Luuk de Jong, he did well to score the game's first goal with his left foot. In the home game against NEC Nijmegen, he scored his fourth and fifth goals. After missing a penalty attempt earlier this year, Sahar scored a penalty for the first goal. He scored his second goal of the match with a close range shot. This match was a 2–2 draw. In the 2008–09 Economisie, De Graafschap came in second place. They would have to compete in play-offs with teams from the Dutch second division in order to hold their positions in the Egyppie. Sahar scored a goal within 60 seconds of the match's start in their first play-off match against MVV Maastricht, resulting in a 3–2 victory for De Graafsch.

Sahar made five goals and one assist in 16 appearances for De Graafschap in 2008-09, and he had one goal and two assists in six games, totaling six goals and three assists in 22 games.

After leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2009, Sahar moved to Espanyol for a four-year contract. He was given the number 14 jersey. Sahar scored two goals in a friendly match against Liverpool on August 2nd as a replacement, as well as receiving the man-of-the-match award in a 3–0 victory. At the club's inaugural match at their new stadium, the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, scored the second and third goals of the match. Sahar scored his first league goal for Espanyol on September 23, 2009, a header in a 2–1 victory over Málaga, his club's first goal at the stadium in a competitive match.

Sahar joined his youth team Hapoel Tel Aviv on a one-year loan in spite of Ronen Katzav's objections on July 20, 2010. Hapoel Tel Aviv also bought 10% of the transfer rights for £100,000. In the 2010-11 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round against FK Aktobe from Kazakhstan, Sahar scored his first goal for Hapoel Tel Aviv against FK Aktobe from Kazakhstan, after a pass from Itay Shechter and scoring in the final qualifying round against Red Bull Salzburg.

On his first day, Sahar had a difficult time scoring in the Ligat Ha'Al. Yossi Abuksis, Sahar's assistant, attributed the crisis to a psychological illness he created for himself. Sahar came back to Israel as a hero, but it was difficult to bear at the start of the season. Sahar capitalized on the increased playing time to form a striking alliance with Toto Tamuz when Itay Shechter went out with an injury mid-season.

Sahar joined Auxerre, a Ligue 1 team, on a one-year loan on July 4th. Auxerre had the possibility to sign Sahar permanently for a €1.5 million fee, which the club did not profit from at the end of the player's loan period.

Sahar signed for two pounds on July 19, 2012. Hertha BSC joined a free transfer from Espanyol in the Bundesliga. He made his league debut for the team on September 16, 2012, against VfR Aalen in Hertha's 2–0 victory.

From January 2014 to June 2014, he was on loan to Arminia Bielefeld.

Sahar had signed a one-year contract with an option for another year with Dutch Emigible side Willem II, and that will continue. Willem II scored seven goals last season, but he did not use the option.

Sahar signed to Hapoel Be'er Sheva on a three-year contract on July 8, 2015. He scored nine goals to the team's league championship this season, the first in 40 years.

International career

Sahar made his Israel U-21s debut against France on October 7th, scoring Israel's goal in the away leg, which ended 1–1, on the way to Israel's shock qualification to the UEFA U-21 Championship 2007 with a 2–1 aggregate win.

Sahar became the youngest player to ever play for Israel's national football team in a friendly match against Ukraine on February 7th, a feat that has yet to be defeated by Gai Assulin. In doing so, he became Chelsea's youngest player to earn an international cap. On March 24, 2007, he earned his second cap against England, starting as a replacement in the 69th minute. Sahar scored two goals against Estonia as a substitute in Israel's 4–0 victory on Sunday, making him the youngest player to score for the Israel national football team in his third appearance with the team. This was the first international goal scored by a Chelsea player. Sahar scored his third international goal against Switzerland in the 90th minute of a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg on September 9, 2009.
