She speaks German and English fluently, and appeared in her first English-language role in the film Pandorum.
She may be best known for her role as Agnes Nielsen in the German Netflix series Dark's 2013 Superman film Faora, as the villainous, indestructible character.
Early life
Traue was born in Mittweida, Saxony, in the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Her mother was a dancer and a singer. Traue was raised in Russia. She speaks German and English fluently. She worked as an artistic gymnast from age six to her teens in a prestigious training unit. She started acting Jeanne d'Arc in a school play. She earned the lead role in the first ever "Hip Hopera" (the musical "West End Opera") at the age of sixteen.
Career
Traue performed and toured with the company for four years, appearing on stages around Germany, Europe, and New York City. Traue appeared in many films and television shows, including Kleinruppin Forever, Berlin am Meer, and Phantom pain.
Traue was selected for the lead female role in the film Pandorum, a science fiction/thriller film directed by Travis Milloy and starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster in 2008.
Traue played villain Faora in the Superman film Man of Steel in 2013 to encouraging feedback. Traue underwent an intense four-month training and dieting program in preparation for her role as Faora's role.
In 2014, Traue portrayed Bony Lizzie in the Universal Pictures action-fantasy film Seventh Son. She has since appeared in numerous German and international films and television productions in lead roles or recurrent supporting roles, including the 2017 film Bye Bye Germany starring actor Moritz Bleibtreu directed by Sam Garbarski and the 2017 Amazon series Oasis. Traue's further acting appearances in 2017 and 2018 include the German Netflix series Dark (as Agnes Nielsen), and German movies Das Ende der Wahrheit, Spielmacher, and Ballon. In the German ZDFneo TV miniseries Dead End, Traue led the cast.
