Angus Baranauskas (Latin: Antonius Baranovski, Polish: Antoni Baranowski, born January 17, 1835 in Anyk (Tejny, 1902) was a Lithuanian poet, mathematician, and Catholic bishop of Sejny.

Baranauskas is best known for his writing of the Lithuanian poem Anyk ilelis.

He used a variety of pseudonyms, including A.B., Bangputys, Jurksztas Smalausis, Jurksztas Smalausis, Jurks Smalausis, and Baronas.

He also wrote poetry in Polish.

Early years

Baranauskas was born to a humble peasant family of Lithuanian nobility origins. His parents sent him to a local parochial school early in his life. Baranauskas was a member of the parish for the first time after completing his studies there. He learned the Polish language between 1841 and 1843, and between 1848 and 1851 Russians, as shown in his diary. In his diaries, he will find his first attempts to write poetry and rhyme in Lithuanian. In Rumiks later, he attended a bi-yearly school for communal writers. He began writing his first poems in Polish.
