Anna Gunn (born August 11, 1968) is an American actress.

She is best known for her role as Skyler White on AMC's Breaking Bad, for which she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2013 and 2014.

Early life

Gunn was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is the niece of Sharon Anna Kathryn "Shana" Gunn, an interior designer, and Clemens Earl Gunn Jr., who worked in real estate. She is Billy Gunn's cousin. She graduated from Santa Fe Preparatory School in 1986 and then attended Northwestern University, where she majored in theater and graduated in 1990. She studied at the British American Drama Academy for a semester in 1988. She and Pamela Adlon married in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, where she shared a house with Pamela Adlon.

Personal life

In 1990, Gunn married Scottish actor and real estate broker Alastair Duncan. In 2009, the couple divorced. Aila Rose and Emma, their two daughters, have two children.

Career

Gunn is best known for her role as Skyler White in the AMC drama series Breaking Bad, for which she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2012, 2013, and 2014, winning in 2013 and 2014. She wrote an op-ed column for The New York Times in August 2013 exploring the public's contempt of her image.

Gunn appeared on ABC's The Practice from 1997 to 2002, and she appeared as series regular Martha Bullock on HBO's Deadwood from 2005 to 2006. She appeared on Seinfeld in the episode "The Glasses," as part of the Six Feet Under episode "Parallel Play," as well as on the first season of Murder One.

She appeared in the Quantum Leap episode "The Play's the Thing" and portrayed Ariel in the Legacy of Kain series of video games. She appeared in the Lifetime film Secrets of Eden as the lead actress in 2011, opposite John Stamos. Among her other film credits are: Without Evidence, Enemy of the State, Treading Water, Twelve Mile Road, and Red State.

Gunn will appear in a pilot for a one-hour TV drama, Rita, based on a Danish television series about a private-school teacher and mother in February 2013. Krista Vernoff's script and directed by Miguel Arteta were supposed to be written for the Fox TV Studios pilot.

In 2014, Gunn appeared Off-Broadway with Billy Magnussen in Sex with Strangers, directed by David Schwimmer at Second Stage Theater.

She appeared in Equity, a 2016 film. It premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival as the first female-driven Wall Street film.

Maxine Faulk appeared in the Nol Coward Theater limited-time production of Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Irmo in 2019.

According to TMZ, Aaron Paul's petition to change his and his family's official surnames has been accepted. Aaron Paul Sturtevant, a 43-year-old actor, was born in Oklahoma, but his stage name was changed to Paul because his surname was too difficult to pronounce - he and his partner Lauren Parsekian, 35, had to change their surnames to Paul.
