Anju Mahendru (born 11 January 1946) is an Indian actress.

Reeva is best known as Reeva in Kahiin Tohoga and Kamini Gupta in Kasautii Zindagii Kay's Kahiin To Hoga.

Personal life

Mahendru had a long association with actor Rajesh Khanna from 1966 to 1972. Khanna's mother had hoped for Khanna to marry soon after he had turned 27 and had become extremely famous by 1969, but Khanna's mother, who had been planning to pursue her career as an actor, said she wanted to postponed her marriage in 1971. Khanna continued to adore Mahendru and kept on begging her to marry him. Mahendru's mother was a fan of Khanna and Khanna, so she gave them a bungalow as well. However, there were rumors of her dating Gary Sobers in 1971 and later Imtiaz Khan from 1972 and Khanna were fed up with her non-commitment to marriage, which culminated in Khanna's split with Mahendru in 1972.

Khanna married Dimple Kapadia in March 1973, eight months before the film Bobby was released. Anju and Rajesh did not speak with each other until 1987. Anju dated Imtiaz Khan from 1972 to 1979, but Anju rejected Imtiaz Khan in 1979.

When Anju died, he became close friends with Rajesh from 1988 to Khanna's death and was by his side when he died. In an interview, she confessed that it was because of her immaturity that she rebuffered Khanna's marriage bid in 1971, and that if she had accepted marriage, she would have remained his wife.

Career

At the age of 13, Mahendru started modeling. She was introduced by poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi, who recommended her to Basu Bhattacharya. Basu appeared in Uski Kahani in 1966. Uski Kahani was the debut film for Mahendru as well as Basu Bhattacharya's first directorial venture. She went on to appear in films including Jewel Thief, Bandhan, Intaqam, and Dastak later. She never made it as a leading lady and moved to character roles. In the mid-1980s, she appeared in Nari Hira's television films starring up and coming Aditya Pancholi.

She made a comeback in the 1990s in television appearances on various soaps. On Zee TV, she appeared as Trishna's mother-in-law in the TV series Hamari Betiyoon Ka Vivah. In Geet, she served as Maan's daadi, as a Maan daadi. In Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, she appeared in Jeevika, Maanvi, and Daboo's daadi. In StarPlus' Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, she is seen as Sujatha. On StarPlus, she is currently depicted as Gayatri Singh, the grandmother of the female lead, Anami.
