Angela Rayner (née Bowen), a British Labour Party politician who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashton-under-Lyne since 2015.
She has been Shadow Secretary of State for Education since 1996 and has served in Jeremy Corbyn's Shadow Cabinet. Rayner left secondary school at the age of 16 when she was pregnant and without a certificate.

Rayner was born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, on March 28, 1980. She attended Avondale School in Stockport, graduating from the school aged 16 after being pregnant and lacking no qualifications. She continued studying part-time at Stockport College, learning British Sign Language and gaining an NVQ Level 2 in social care.
Rayner worked as a care worker for a number of years after leaving college. During this period, she was also elected as a Unison trade union representative. She was later elected as the convenor of Unison North West, becoming the union's most senior official in the area.
