Angela Raiola Career

Life and career

Raiola was one of fifteen defendants charged — and later found guilty — for their participation in the drug trade, which sold crack cocaine, powdered cocaine, and marijuana in Brooklyn and Manhattan in May 2001. Raiola was branded by federal investigators as an associate of the drug ring's chief, who was sentenced to nearly 13 years in jail. According to an affidavit sworn by a DEA agent and an NYPD detective, she was provided cocaine for "street level distribution." Raiola obtained the drug in Brooklyn bars, where she worked. The lawsuit against Raiola and her codefendants was brought to life by wiretapped conversations, the efforts of an undercover NYPD detective who posed as a drug dealer, and a PI who made cocaine purchases at federal agents' direction. Low-level employees of the Colombo crime family were among the targets of the federal probe. Raiola was charged on six criminal charges in May 2001. She was charged with five counts connected to separate cocaine transactions she made to the CI as part of a conspiracy-to-distribute charge. Raiola's handbag at the time of her detention had fourteen small plastic bags containing cocaine.

Raiola, who was not released on $100,000 bond, pleaded guilty to the indictment's top count in March 2003. She was sentenced to three years in probation and four months in home confinement in October 2003. A federal judge released an order in July 2004 modifying Raiola's probation terms nine months later. Judge Sterling Johnson Jr. recommended that she enroll in "an outpatient and/or inpatient drug therapy or detoxification program." Court records contradict this order; no evidence exists to show what prompted this order. Nine of the fifteen defendants charged in the drug case were sentenced to probation. Six other six prisoners were sentenced to prison sentences ranging from 33 to 151 months.

Raiola opened The Drunken Monkey in 2007 with her cousin SallyAnn Lombardi, who owned the license, but the bar was forced to close in 2015 due to Raiola's history as a convicted felon.

Raiola was shot in 2011 in what would be her first appearance on reality television, Mob Wives. In the show's second season, she made her debut as a regular cast member. Raiola will remain as a series regular for the remainder of the show's run, but while she shot one reunion episode on February 13, she was off set for only two hours due to her illness.
