Allen Glover Lanier (June 25, 1946 – August 14, 2013) was an American musician who played keyboards and rhythm guitar. * He was a founding member of Blue Cult. "True Confessions," "Searchin" for Celine," "In Thee," and "Lonely Teardrops" were among the songs on Blue yster Cult's albums. * Patti Smith, John Cale, Jim Carroll, The Dictators, and The Clash were among others' contributions to music in addition to his work with Blue & Coult. * He spent several years with Patti Smith in Manhattan, New York's 1970s. * He left the company in 1985 and was replaced by Tommy Zvoncheck (of Clarence Clemons and Public Image Ltd fame). * In 1987, Lanier returned to the band and continued touring regularly until the fall of 2006. "The band's line-up photo was updated to exclude Lanier," says Richie, and Richie Castellano's account on the band's website changes to the guitars/keyboards position, "since Allen Lanier's departure, he's quite the master!" Allen Lanier is likely to have resigned from both Blue Cult and music in 2007, having attended his last concert with them in late 2006. *He's returning to the band for their 40th anniversary concert in New York in November 2012. Blue yster Cult announced Lanier's death on August 14, 2013. "Allen succumbed to C.O.P.D. complications," the company's official Facebook page states. Allen Lanier, my longtime friend, has died, according to lead singer Eric Bloom. Even if we hadn't spoken in a while, we'll miss the guy. * He was both a guitarist and a thinker. * He read voraciously about all sorts of things, especially comparative religion. In the beginnings, we all drove for years together, in shared rooms. * We partied, gyrized, and played. All BOC followers and band members will mourn his loss. * Eventually, smoking finally got to him. * He had been hospitalized with C.O.P.D. Allen had noticed some old college band tapes of mine and suggested that I try to perform as the singer in 1968. A number of good memories spanning more than 40 years. * Perhaps he's playing a tune with Jim Carroll right now.
