Alexandru Chipciu Career

Club career

Chipciu started his career with Dacia Unirea Bràila in 2001, aged 13. He played youth football for Sporting Pitești from 2004 to 2006.

Chipciu made his senior squad debut at FC Brașov in his first year with the club at the age of 18. However, he was given less playing time as the team attempted to advance to the first division. He was loaned out to Liga II side Forex Brașov in the first half of the 2008–09 season, and in the second part he rejoined his old youth team Brăila in Liga III to gain more experience.

Chipciu was promoted to the Liga I on his return to FC Brașov, but he had no opportunities to play regularly. He had enjoyed his success in the 2010-11 season, making him one of the best players of the team and attracting the attention of Bucharest rivals Steaua and Dinamo. He eventually decided to stay in Brașov, but under new circumstances that would have kept him at the club until 2015. Chipciu got off to a promising start in the 2011–12 season by scoring two key goals in the first three games.

Steaua București and FC Brașov have announced that they have reached an agreement for the transfer of Chipciu on November 21, 2011. He penned a five-year contract, but the press announced that the transfer fee would be an initial €1.2 million plus 25% interest from a future auction.

Chipciu scored his first goal for the club in a 1–1 away draw at Panduria Târgu Jiu on March 31, 2012, and his second against Sportul Studenciuesc came just one week later, during an exciting build-up game (4–1 victory) at Stadionul Steaua. After receiving a red card in a match against Concordia Chiajna on May 7, he was dismissed. Chipciu supported Steaua in qualifying from the UEFA Europa League group stage, where they competed against VfB Stuttgart, Molde, and Copenhagen during late 2012. In the round of 32, Steaua defeated Dutch club Ajax on penalty shoot-outs before losing the following round to Chelsea after 3–2 on aggregate.

Chipciu sustained an injury in a derby with Dinamo București on May 10th and was later suspended for five months with a fractured tibia. After Steaua's Liga I conquest, he received a winners medal, his first major award. During his three years with the Roş-albaștrii, he earned six more trophies, including two more league championships, one Cupa Romania, one Supercupa României, and two Cupa Ligii.

Chipciu travelled to Anderlecht, Belgium, on July 18, 2016, for a medical visit. The club announced the signing of a four-year deal one day later. Anderlecht paid €3 million for the transfer, with bonus clauses potentially increasing the cost to €3.5 million.

Chipciu scored his first goal in a 5-1 Belgian Pro League win over Kortrijk on August 7, 2016. Chipciu was sent on loan to Sparta Prague after falling off the pecking order on July 3. He made 27 Czech First League appearances and netted once during his one-year tenure, including one in the Czech First League.

After agreeing to sign for CFR Cluj as a free agent, Chipciu returned to his home country on January 18, 2020. In the remainder of the season, he went without scoring in nine games as CFR claimed its third-consecutive national championship.

Chipciu joined CFR's Cluj on a one-year contract on June 25, 2022.

International career

In a match against Serbia on March 29, 2006, Chipciu made his debut for Romania under the age of 17. He also represented the country at an under-19 age. Chipciu made his first appearance on the full side in 2011 while starting off as a starter against San Marino. In a friendly match against Greece in Austria against Greece on November 15, he scored his first senior international goal. Chipciu was selected by boss Anghel Iordescu for his provisional 28-man UEFA Euro 2016 squad on May 17th and made it to the final team.
