Adrian Mutu Life

Adrian Mutu (born 8 January 1979) is a Romanian football coach and former player who is currently the reserve team coach at United Arab Emirates club Al Wahda.

He played as either an attacking midfielder or a forward as a player. Mutu began his career in Romania, where he spent two years for Arge? Pite?ti and half a year with Dinamo Bucure?ti before joining Internazionale in Italy midway through the 1999–2000 Serie A. After just ten games with the Nerazzurrrri, he moved to Hellas Verona and then Parma, for which he scored 39 goals in the next three years.

His excellent form earned him a €22.5 million transfer to Chelsea.

He was suspended and rejoined Juventus after failing a (recreational) drug test.

Mutu, after the 2006 Italian football crisis and Juventus' relegation to Serie B, has joined Fiorentina, where he played regularly for five years.

He spent a season with Cesena and French club Ajaccio before returning to his home country with Petrolul Ploie?ti in 2014.

Mutu retired from professional football in 2016 after two more brief stints with Pune City and ASA Târgu Mure. Mutu played 77 games for the Romanian national team, scoring 35 goals, a joint record with Gheorghe Hagi.

In 2000 and 2008, he was in the country's squads at the European Championship.

Only Gheorghe Popescu and Gheorghe Hagi have been named as recipients of the Romanian Footballer of the Year award four times, with six and seven wins respectively.

During the early 2000s, Mutu was in a relationship with Israeli model and actress Moran Atias.

He was married to Romanian actress and television presenter Alexandra Dinu, for whom he has a son named Mario (2002).

Adrian Mutu Career

Club career

Mutu began his career with Argeş Pitești and Dinamo București.

Mutu was sold by Inter to Verona in a co-ownership agreement in 2000 for 7,500 million lires (€3,873,427). Massimo Oddo, Mauro Camoranesi (later a teammate at Juventus), and young rising star Alberto Gilardino (later a teammate at Fiorentina) have all signed Massimo Oddo, Mauro Camoranesi (later a teammate at Fiorentina) this season. Mutu came off the bench for Verona's matchday 18 in February 2001, trailing 0–1 and leading Verona to a 3–2 victory. By winning the relegation tie-breaker playoffs, the club barely escaped relegation. Verona bought Mutu outright for 5,100 million lire in June 2001.

(€2,633,930)

Chelsea paid Parma €22.5 million (roughly £15.8 million) for Mutu's transfer as part of new owner Roman Abramovich's spending spree on a five-year deal on August 12, 2003. In a 2–1 home win over Leicester City and a two-day victory at Stamford Bridge over Tottenham Hotspur on September 13, he scored the winning goal from distance, and two in a 4–2 victory at Stamford Bridge against Tottenham Hotspur.

Mutu's new manager José Mourinho had a turbulent relationship with the club in 2004-05, with each accusing the other of fabricating information about whether the player was injured for a 2006 World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic. Mutu was barred from football for seven months before May 2005 after a positive for cocaine use was found in September 2004.

Chelsea began seeking compensation from Mutu in early 2005. Chelsea's appeals committee found that the player committed a breach of his employment without merely cause, making Chelsea eligible to claim the compensation. Mutu's first appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was dismissed in April 2005, but the complaint was dismissed in December 2005. Chelsea applied for a refund against Mutu on May 11, 2006. Following Mutu's breach of the employment agreement without just cause, the club requested that the FIFA Conflict Resolution Chamber (DRC) award compensation to the club. The DRC nevertheless found on October 26 that it did not have power to make a decision in the case and that the club's assertion was therefore not admissible. Chelsea appealed a new appeal before the CAS, seeking the DRC's annulment. A CAS panel accepted the club's appeal, set aside the DRC's ruling, and referred the matter back to the DRC, "which has the power to determine and enforce the proper sporting penalty and/or order for compensation, if any, arising out of the controversy" between the Club and the Player," a CAS panel said on May 21.

Mutu's former club, Chelsea FC, was fined €17,173,990 by the FIFA Conflict Resolution Chamber on May 7, 2008, for breach of contract. This included €16,500,000 for the unamortized portion of the transfer fee, which was received by Mutu), and €366,650 for the unamortised portion of the fee to the Agent, but it was not to take into account either the amount paid by the club to the player (consideration for services rendered) or the remaining value of the employment contract (valued at €10,858,500). Mutu had to pay within 30 days after being warned of the decision in August 2008. Mutu appealed the Court of Arbitration for Sport's second time, but the court dismissed his appeal on July 31st, and Mutu was ordered to pay Chelsea the amount in advance of 5% p.a. The matter was submitted to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee from the start of September 2008 to its decision. In addition, Mutu had to pay the arbitration fees for both sides of the dispute, including CHF 50,000 to Chelsea. The fine was the highest ever levied by FIFA.

Mutu may have been barred from football by FIFA if he did not pay the fine, although some attorneys disagreed, but some lawyers denied this. Mutu's appeal to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland was dismissed in October 2009, this time to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland, but this appeal was also dismissed on June 14, 2010, with Mutu now being ordered to pay Chelsea €17 million in damages. In a recent decision, the FIFA DRC found Livorno and Juventus were both jointly liable for compensation; both clubs appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport immediately. The Court of Arbitration for Sport had ruled against the FIFA DRC's decision on January 21, 2015; Mutu remained the sole party responsible for the compensation.

Mutu's appeal against the CAS 2015 decision was dismissed by the European Court of Human Rights in 2018.

Despite being barred from football until 18 May, Mutu joined the Italian club Juventus on January 12th, 2005. Although Juventus didn't have space to buy another non-EU player from abroad, fellow Serie A club Livorno, who signed the player and immediately sold him to Juventus, was involved in the transfer as well.

Fiorentina reported on July 8, 2006, that they had signed Mutu for €8 million.

A.S. Roma made a reported €18 to 20 million bid to sign him outright in July 2008, but Mutu hinted that he might stay in Florence and eventually signed a new contract that was not announced until 2012.

Mutu failed a doping test after a Coppa Italia match against Lazio two days earlier, in which he scored twice to help Fiorentina beat 22-0. The INOC was ordered to provide Mutu with a one-year suspension by the Italian anti-doping prosecutor. On 19 April, he was eventually banned from nine months, but it was later limited to six months and ended on October 29th. Mutu was suspended by the club as a result of a violation of contract (AWOL) on January 7, 2011. Mutu publicly apologised to the club and parted company with his agent Victor Becali, and Fiorentina announced him on February 3rd 2011 that the player was reinstated to the first team with immediate effect.

Cesena had signed Mutu on a two-year contract, according to the company on June 23rd. Mutu scored two goals against Novara on January 15th, bringing his total score to 101 in Serie A to 101. Mutu scored a goal against Genoa on April 11th and eventually ended with a draw for Cesena after a string of poor games.

The two teams ended the agreement by mutual consent in the summer of 2012. Cesena was relegated from Serie A in the summer of 2012.

Mutu's he came from Cesena's ban on Cesena has signed a new deal with AC Ajaccio of the French Ligue 1 on August 28, 2012. He said he favoured the Italian culture on Corsica, denied allegations that he was planning for retirement and forecast that he would have more goals than Paris Saint-Germain's Zlatan Ibrahimoviovi. Mutu was the first high-profile player to visit Corsica since Johnny Rep. joined SC Bastia in 1978, according to club president Alain Orsoni.

Mutu's second season saw him play only 9 games and not score before ending his deal with compatriot tefan Popescu on January 14th.

He was unveiled in Petrolul Ploiești later that day in front of 10,000 supporters. Cosmin Contra, his former international teammate, had signed him. Mutu scored both home and away against Viktoria Plze in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, a double that Petrolul triumphantly won 5–2 on aggregate.

Petrolul reported on September 26, 2014, that the club had ended the two parties' employment.

Mutu joined Indian Super League club FC Pune City on July 30, 2015.

Mutu's mother, Anghel Iordescu, had warned him that if he played in a better league than India's, he would have a spot in the UEFA Euro 2016 squad.

International career

He appeared in three of four games at the 2000 UEFA Euro Championships, where Romania advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time.

Mutu scored in the 55th minute of his second match against Italy, but in the same match, Gianluigi Buffon saved Italy's second goal, ensuring that Romania has a spot in the quarter finals. The game ended 1–1.

Since R.v. Lucescu was announced to be drinking alcohol after a match against Serbia in World Cup 2010 Qualifications, the Romanian national team coach has had reservations about calling him up. Răzvan Lucescu was forced to call him up again due to poor results and fan pressure. Mutu scored a brace in his first game back, defeating Luxembourg 3–1 on March 29th, Romania's first victory of the qualifiers. He also scored once in the next game, a 3–0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina over three June 2011.

Mutu and his colleague Gabriel Tamaş were banned from the Romanian national team after being found in a bar on the night of ten August, while their teammates were playing in a friendly match against San Marino on August 11. However, their suspension was suspended after only three games. Mutu was refused to participate on the national team after posting a snapshot of manager Victor Piţurcă as Mr. Bean on Facebook on November 21, 2013.

Managerial career

Mutu began his managerial career in April 2018 when he was named as the head of Romanian Liga I club Voluntari, a two-year deal following the departure of former manager Claudiu Niculescu. However, his time in office lasted just two months. Despite he saved the club from relegation after winning a play-off against Chindia Târgovişte, the club's board of directors decided to fire Mutu on June 14th. Dan Leasa, the club's president, disagreed with the board's decision and left the team.

Mutu was appointed by United Arab Emirates club Al Wahda in July 2018 to be the head of their reserve team.

The forgotten controversial Chelsea striker who was banned from his national team, 'drank the blood of an adult star', has had three wives and claims he could have won a Ballon d'Or

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 14, 2024
Romania may not have the stars over their crest to match it, but they are unquestionably one of Europe's best powerhouses in terms of the gifts received by the Tricolorii. Romania has been generous donors over the years, from The Carpathian Maradona, Gheorghe Hagi, to one of the finest football managers in Mircea Lucescu. Nevertheless, former Chelsea, Juventus, and Fiorentina actress Adrian Mutu stands out as one of the century's most unique personalities and talents.

Following Aleksandar Mitrovic's suspension, the ten longest suspensions in Premier League history have been suspended

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 4, 2023
Since being banned from eight games for attacking referee Chris Kavanagh in Fulham's FA Cup transfer to Manchester United last month, Aleksandar Mitrovic has received one of the longest sentences in Premier League history. The normal three-match ban has been extended to eight games, but the FA is planning to appeal the suspension, claiming that the Serbian striker will receive an even greater punishment. Mitrovic played in Fulham's 2-1 loss at Bournemouth, and the earliest he'll return is against Southampton on May 13 - with two games remaining after that.

Chelsea's Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, and the most expensive striker flops are among Chelsea's most expensive striker flops

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 21, 2022
Chelsea seems to have started again. Timo Werner (right), the latest in a long line of big-money, high-profile knock flops, is expected to leave Stamford Bridge in the wake of much anticipation - and then fail. Werner will not be the first striker to leave this season, with Romelu Lukaku's farewell to Inter Milan in June, a year after the club's first signing. Fernando Torres (inset) and Ballon D'Or winner Andriy Shevchenko (second left) failed to live up to expectations, although Blues fans may recall Adrian Mutu and Mateja Kezman's appearances, as well as Didier Drogba (left). Sportsmail navigates Chelsea's litany of costly mistakes up front, with Werner's medical at RB Leipzig set for Tuesday.
