Early life
Vega was born in Miami, Florida. She spent part of her childhood in Ocala, Florida.
Baruch Vega, her father, is a Colombian fashion photographer and student advisor for the Central Intelligence Agency, and her mother, Gina Rue, is a former model.

In 1996, Vega appeared as young Jo Harding in Twister. Ellen MacDowell appeared in countless television shows and films, including ER, Follow the Stars Home, Ghost Whisperer, and The Bernie Mac Show. She became well-known in 2001 as "Carmen Cortez" in Spy Kids. Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over were two sequels, the first Spy Kids film was a huge success, and two sequels, Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over were shot. She made the majority of her own stunts during the filming of the three films. In 2011, Vega appeared in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World as a mature Carmen Cortez.
