Alek Keshishian Life

Alek Keshishian (born in Beirut, Lebanon) is an Armenian-American film and commercial director, writer, producer, and music video editor.

He is best known for his 1991 film Madonna: Truth or Dare, which was, at the time, the highest-grossing documentary of all time.

Early life

Alek and his sister Aleen were raised in Manchester, New Hampshire, United States, with their Armenian parents Kevork and Cecile Keshishian. His parents were often seen on Chelsea Lately's 'Keeping Up with the Keshishians,' as a child. Alek's talent and passion for music, theatre, and dance were too strong, despite the fact that he was an excellent student of math and sciences and that his father wished Alek would follow in his footsteps in medicine. Both he and his sister performed with the NH Children's Theatre, American Children's Theatre, and the "I Like the United States of A." National Touring Company. He joined St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire, where he graduated summa cum lauded. He became one of the program's leading dancers quickly. He co-produced the Hasty Pudding Theatricals' then 134-year Harvard tradition, becoming the first junior to do so ever before graduating from Harvard University. Jack Lemmon and Fred Gwynne appeared on the Hasty Pudding Show at Harvard University.

Alek Keshishian Career

Career

Keshishian's career began as a music video producer, where he created clips for artists such as Bobby Brown, Elton John, and Vanessa Williams.

Madonna, who had seen a VHS home video of Keshishian's pop opera Wuthering Heights at Harvard, and Alek's unknown, had begged her to give her everything he ordered. Keshishian received a call from Madonna, who had requested him to direct the HBO special for her Blond Ambition World Tour when she was 26 years old. Keshishian returned to Japan four days later to film some backstage footage for the HBO special. Madonna let him direct a feature-length documentary film instead of a candid backstage video shot in Japan. Truth or Dare was the first grossing documentary of its time.

Joe Pesci, Brendan Fraser, and Patrick Dempsey appeared in the Warner Bros. feature film With Honors, Keshishian's next project was the Warner Bros. film With Honors, starring Joe Pesci, Brendan Fraser, and Patrick Dempsey. For the first two weeks of its release, it was the most popular film in the United States.

Keshishian turned his back on Hollywood and concentrated on photography and commercials instead, resulting in commissions for Coca-Cola, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Brut by Fabergé, Baileys, and Max Factor.

Keshishian left London in 2006 after directing and producing Love and Other Disasters, starring Brittany Murphy, Matthew Rhys, and Catherine Tate, which was a festival hit and even opened the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

He directed commercials and special projects for Jennifer Aniston's two Smartwater campaigns while returning to the United States. Chelsea Handler's comedic shower shorts starred Sandra Bullock and fellow Harvard graduate Conan O'Brien.

Keshishian has been writing and delivering two projects for David Fincher, one for television called La Luna and the other a feature called Adult Services.

Selena Gomez of "My Mind & Me" reveals her bipolar disorder experience

www.popsugar.co.uk, November 8, 2022
"Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me" on Apple TV+ is about getting viewers to rethink how they think about mental health. The latest documentary chronicles the child actress's bipolar journey, as well as the challenges she faces when living with the disorder. An experience film producer Alek Keshishian discusses the film's physical appearance and tone as it's like living with depression. "You're up days, you have your dark days, you have moments of recollection, and then everything seems to fall apart," Keshishian says. "It was a difficult story to tell because I had 200 hours of film." So there were certainly 6,000 different films I could have made from that. My aim, for me, was to document the larger journey, but I was also alert that staying in the shadows would make it impossible for people to see the light." Keshishian explores several aspects of Gomez's life, including discovering her reading devastation in visiting childhood friends from Texas, and dressing as the world-famous pop star. Adriana Alejandre, LMFT, founder of Latinx Therapy, finds that the comparison is crucial. "Bipolar disorder has been stigmatized," says the author, and there have been a lot of misconceptions about bipolar disorder, which have led to more joy than anger." She claims that this is entirely inaccurate. "For [Selena Gomez] to teach education as to what it is and what it is like to live with it, while still having the commonality of being successful." And the reason why it's so important for the Latino/Latinx community is because there are a lot of cultural stereotypes surrounding mental health and therapy, and she addresses both.

It's difficult to find the ever-elusive "bop" in a search. Playlists and streaming-service recommendations can only do so much. They often leave a lingering question: Are these songs really good, or are they just new? Visit Bop Shop, a hand-picked collection of songs from the MTV News staff. This weekly collection doesn't discriminate by genre and can include anything — it's a glimpse at what's on our minds and what looks good. We'll keep it fresh with the new music, but we'll still have a few oldies (but goodies) every once in a while. Get ready: The Bop Shop is now open for business.

'My Mind & Me' Is A Testament To Selena Gomez's Courage

www.mtv.com, November 3, 2022
Alek Keshishian, a director who consulted with Selena Gomez about a documentary about her experience with fame and her mental stability over the past six years, knew he'd have more credibility than other documentaries of late," he says. Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, which follows a rigorous two-and-a-half editing process, will premiere on Apple TV+ on November 4. The film delves into Gomez's fight with her mental health and how she emerged on the other side of life, including her kidney transplant, bipolar disorder, and the cancellation of her Revival tour in 2015. "The entire film is a tribute to Selena's ability to really open up those aspects of her life," Keshishian says, "so many people can see it and relate on some level." Keshishian, a renowned singer from Lebanon, is best known for his 1991 documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare, which follows viewers through the icon's four-month Blonde Ambition World Tour and became the world's highest-grossing documentary from its debut until 2002. After the final rehearsal for her Revival tour, the Harvard-educated filmmaker also produced music for Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative," Vanessa Williams' "He's Got the Look," and Gomez's 2015 hit "Hands to Myself." The comparison between her inner life and the public's image, coloured by reports of opioid use and partying, is palpable.
