www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 29, 2023
It lights up the night sky and has captivated us since the dawn of humanity. But just how big is the moon compared to Earth, exactly how far away is it and why do we only see one side of our lunar satellite? These pie charts, tables, and graphs tell you all you need to hear about the glowing white sphere that orbits us from around 239,000 miles (385,000 kilometers). MailOnline also examines the moon's various phases, where men have walked on the lunar surface, and how the 'air' compares to here and there on Earth.
Where are the Apollo astronauts now?

Walter Cunningham died earlier this month at the age of 90. He was the eighth Apollo astronaut to die in the last five years. His family said he died from natural causes 'after a full and complete life.' Michael Collins, who was a member of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's historic first moon landing mission, died in 2021, though Apollo 9's Jim McDivitt, 16's John Young, 12's Alan Bean, and 15's Alfred Worden have all died recently. So who is left of the 32 astronauts who flew on the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 70s? Eleven people are still alive, including four who walked on the moon. MailOnline takes a look at what happened to the illustrious US spacemen.
