Ahmed Chawki Career

Music career

Chawki took the first prize at the Arab Music Festival in Tetouan in 2000, organised by "Maison du Littoral" in Tetouan. He and some other young performers formed La Paloma, his first musical group. The La Paloma, a fusion sound based on Arab, Moroccan, and flamenco music, has performed on numerous national and international festivals, with brisk success and media coverage. As a result, he has been a regular guest on television shows and radio channels, including 2M on Nasima and Chanel One. "Ya Lmima," "La Paloma," and "Sinine," the latter's in collaboration with Librejano, were among his hit songs.

Despite a lack of help by conventional brands, Chawki's "Inta Lya," "Ya Nassini," "Ghaly," and "La Paloma" saw moderate success in 2009 and 2010.

During the development of RedOne's collective pan-Arab operetta work "Bukra" (in Arabic, implying tomorrow) in collaboration with Quincy Jones, Chawki drew their interest. Eventually, Chawki was accepted alongside a large number of Arab artists in the project. Ahmed Chawki's breakthrough came in 2012 when he joined RedOne. At that time, RedOne had released Khaled's latest album C'est la vie and the title track "C'est la vie," opening the door for more Middle East performances, including Ahmed Chawki's "Habibi I Love You," a multilingual crossover song with Arabic elements and western dance tunes. Pitbull's collaboration with Moroccan–Swedish producer RedOne in the international hit "Habibi I Love You" (meaning "darling, I love you) in 2013 was a huge success. The song became a big summer hit on Middle Eastern charts, as well as comparing Europe, including France and the Netherlands.

During the summer of 2013, Ahmed Chawki's main version of "Habibi I Love You" featuring Pitbull became a big hit in Rabat, Egypt, and the Persian Gulf area during summer 2013.

The song was notably a hit in France charting in SNEP, the official French Singles Chart, with additional French lyrics as "Habibi I Love You (Mon Amour I Love You)" with vocals starring French-Algerian singer Kenza Farah. On June 21, 2013, the French trilingual version was unveiled in Marseille during the "Fête de la Musique" festival. It was very popular in Spain and Mexico with additional Spanish lyrics performed by Ahmed Chawki and singer Sophia Del Carmen, as well as Pitbull's rap. The song, which included Dutch singer Do van Hulst, was a summer hit in the Netherlands, with the Dutch version featuring Pitbull & Do. Chawki and Do on RTL Late Night performed it. Due to RedOne's presence in Scandinavian markets, the song also did well in Scandinavian markets. "Habibi" by Nek si Blondu de la Timișoara, Chawki's song has been covered in Romania, as well as in Romania. Ahmed Chawki introduced a Romanian version of Mandinga with additional Romanian songs. Chawki appears in Arabic and Spanish.

The song has received a slew of remixes and appeared in a variety of compilations. It is also very popular with Zumba fitness enthusiasts.

Chawki's second single, "Ana Bahwak" (I Adore You), was also produced by RedOne & Co.

Ahmed Chawki, who now goes by the mononym Chawki, was featured in a football-themed song "Magic in the Air" by Magic System in Brazil's 2014 FIFA World Cup preparations. The song was a hit on France and Belgium, as well as several other European charts. RedOne produced "Habibi I Love You" as its track in the case.
