Early life
Ahmed Chawki was born in 1981 in the town of Jbeldersa, Tétouan, Morocco. He has been writing and performing poems since childhood. He attended the National School of Theatre and Singing in Tétouan, and participated in a number of exhibitions and received numerous awards. He then enrolled at the Institute of Fine Arts in Tétouan, specializing in classical and Western singing, while also studying musical theory.
Music career
Chawki took the first prize at the Arab Music Festival in Tetouan in 2000, organised by "Maison du Littoral" in Tetouan. He and some other young performers formed La Paloma, his first musical group. The La Paloma, a fusion sound based on Arab, Moroccan, and flamenco music, has performed on numerous national and international festivals, with brisk success and media coverage. As a result, he has been a regular guest on television shows and radio channels, including 2M on Nasima and Chanel One. "Ya Lmima," "La Paloma," and "Sinine," the latter's in collaboration with Librejano, were among his hit songs.
Despite a lack of help by conventional brands, Chawki's "Inta Lya," "Ya Nassini," "Ghaly," and "La Paloma" saw moderate success in 2009 and 2010.
During the development of RedOne's collective pan-Arab operetta work "Bukra" (in Arabic, implying tomorrow) in collaboration with Quincy Jones, Chawki drew their interest. Eventually, Chawki was accepted alongside a large number of Arab artists in the project. Ahmed Chawki's breakthrough came in 2012 when he joined RedOne.
