According to the Sunderland Echo, the pensioner lived in rented accommodation all his life and had intended on using the funds to buy his own home. Lorraine Ross, her father, entrusted the money to his daughter, who promised to help him find a bungalow. Lorraine and her husband Stuart Ross bought a house in Washington with stairs, which Mr Gaunt neither liked nor wanted to move into, but reluctantly agreed to. Mr Gaunt was back in rented housing just four years ago, but Lorraine and Stuart Ross remortgaged and moved into the house bought with Mr Gaunt's money.
