William Bast Life

William Bast (April 3, 1931-May 4, 2015) was an American screenwriter and author.

He was the author of two biographies of screen actor James Dean, in addition to writing scripts for motion pictures and television.

Paul Huson, his ex-girlfriend, used to work with him.

Early life

Bast was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and the son of Gilbert Bast and Bernice Fleischmann. He began his early education in Milwaukee before moving to Kenosha when his family lived there. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School and then enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, before returning to Milwaukee.

When his family moved to Los Angeles, he attended UCLA, where he studied Theater Arts, working with a fellow Theater Arts student named James Dean, who would later on become an actor. Bast Willie, a close friend, came to New York in 1952 to join Dean and work in radio and television. He began working with CBS and later wrote his first scripts for the NBC television sitcom The Aldrich Family.
