College career
During the 2012 season, Lutz was the kickoff specialist and became Georgia State's placekicker after four games. Lutz had a 4-of-7 (57%) field goals and was a perfect 18-for-18 on extra points at the end of the 2012 season. Lutz field goal against William & Mary was his first field goal. Against Rhode Island, Lutz kicked a season-long 40-yard field goal.
Lutz made 8-of-12 (67%) field goals and 25-of-26 (96%) extra points for 49 points at the end of the 2013 season. Against Alabama, Lutz kicked a school record 53-yard field goal.
Lutz was voted the punter late in the 2014 season as well. Lutz was named by Phil Steele to the Midseason All-Sun Belt first team. Professional career
After going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft, Lutz signed with the Baltimore Ravens on May 5, 2016. On August 29, 2016, the Ravens waived him.

Lutz had a field goal blocked by Johnathan Hankins against the New York Giants on September 18, 2016, which was recovered by Janoris Jenkins for a Giants touchdown. Lutz defeated the Carolina Panthers 41-38 after winning a game-winning 52-yard field goal on October 16, 2016. Against the Seattle Seahawks on October 30, 2016, Lutz scored his career-best four field goals. In Week 6 and Week 8 of the 2016 season, Lutz received NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Punter Thomas Morstead and returninger Reggie Bush were the only two other Saints rookies to win the award twice in a season.
