Career

Sudler-Smith produced two short films Going for Baroque and Afternoon Delight, after arriving in Los Angeles in 1996. He released Bubba and Ike, a "redneck buddy comedy" starring Jesse Borrego and Elisa Gabrielli and first screened at the Austin Film Festival in 1998. Sudler-Smith produced the documentary Ultrasuede, a documentary about Roy Halston, the well-known fashion designer who contributed to the casual chic look in 2010. The film concentrated on Studio 54 and the nightlife in Manhattan in the 1970s, using archive footage and interviews of celebrities including Anjelica Huston, Billy Joel, Liza Minnelli, and Anthony Haden-Guest. The film was released on Showtime and Peacock following its international theatrical premiere, and it will be seen on Amazon Prime and Peacock. Critics Owen Gleiberman of Variety and Entertainment Weekly gave the film an A+ rating, noting that it has more legs than just about every other fashion documentary film. The film's trajectory is said to have largely critical feedback and currently stands at 33% on review aggregating website Rottentomatoes.com.

Sudler-Smith is the creator and executive producer of Southern Charm, a reality show on Bravo that chronicles Charleston, South Carolina's social life. In November, 2014, the second season of filming concluded. Southern Charm examines six young professionals in Charleston, including a novice lawyer, an aspiring fashion designer, and Thomas Ravenel, a local celebrity who was forced to resign as South Carolina's state treasurer after being charged with cocaine. Ravenel's reviewer noted that the show is now "pursuing a political career with utter delusion." "He plans his comeback while also losing and hooking up with a 21-year-old. In other words, he is the queen of reality television.

Sudler-Smith is also the executive producer of two spin-off series, Southern Charm Savannah and Southern Charm New Orleans.

"Whitney Sudler-Smith is very interesting, but he's nothing like his mother, Patricia Altschul, who wakes up and tells her butler that it's time for her morning cocktail with the word, "It's time for my medicine!" In The New York Times, Gregory Miller wrote about Gregory Miller. Arthur Goodhart Altschul Sr., the influential New York art collector and philanthropist who was longtime General Partner of Goldman Sachs, is widowed. Patricia Altschul provides a little bit of information on the younger audience's lives on the show. When Sudler-Smith announced plans to open a restaurant in Charleston during the show's first season, his mother told him, "I think that's a little out of your place." The show is often shot in Mikell House, a 9,480-square-foot mansion built in 1851 by Patricia Altschul in downtown Charleston.

Sudler-Smith is currently in pre-production for the scripted comedy Family Office.
