Vinko Bren (born 3 February 1964) is a Croatian film producer who came to international prominence with three critically acclaimed and award-winning films that, each in its own way, debunk some of Croatia's cultural tabogyn cinema in the 1990s. Brean was born in Zagreb to writer Jelena Godlar (d).

He studied Philosophy and Comparative Literature at the University of Zagreb, as well as Film and Television Direction at the University of Dramatic Arts' Academy.

In 1988, he received the Oberhausen debutant award for his short film Na burza ("Our Stock Exchange") as a student. Brean was given the Oktavijan award in 1994 and 1995 at the Days of Croatian Film Festival for Zajednicki rucak ("Lunch Together") and Hodnik ("The Correspondent") respectively. Kako je poorna mom otoku ("How the War Started on My Island"), his first feature-length film, is a comedic microcosmic representation of the Yugoslav Wars set in the Dalmatian Adriatic.

At the 1997 Cottbus Film Festival of Young East European Cinema, the film was honoured the Velika zlatna arena ("Grand Golden Arena") for cinematography.
