Early life and education

Piazza was born and raised in Queens, New York, New York. His father, who immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s, is Italian. His mother is of German descent. He remembers humble beginnings and a zealous work ethic that came from watching his father work multiple jobs to help the family, which included a younger brother and one older sister. Vincent also thanks his mother's large German family for allowing several travelers around the United States to visit distant relatives who inspired him to discover his passion and see the world's treasures.

He attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, Vince lettered in soccer and hockey, received academic scholarships for academics and hockey, as well as the National Honor Society. After graduating with a 4.0 grade point average, he gained numerous academic awards from a slew of colleges, eventually transferring to Villanova University where he concentrated in Sports and Media Management. Vincent Piazza Career

Career

Since retiring from hockey, he began to work with acting coach Alice Spivak and the TerraNOVA Collective theatre company in Lion Theatre, along Theatre Row in New York City. He made his feature film debut in Baby Steps, A Match Made in Manhattan, and Much Ado About Nothing in 2006, and appeared in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Piazza has appeared in three episodes of the television series The Sopranos, including the eighth, eleventh, and thirteenth episodes of the show's sixth season. He says his experience on the show is "incredible" and that if he were asked, he would be involved in any prequels or sequels to the series. Earl Hefner, the kleptomaniac older brother of the film's protagonist, appeared in the 2007 film Rocket Science as Earl Hefner. After auditioning at a New York acting school, he became one of the first actors cast, writer-director Jeffrey Blitz said: "Vince had just the right mix of humor and annoyance to the role." Vince brought some of the rest of the options to Earl. He's a physical actor as well as a very comedic one." He went on to appear in independent films Goodbye Baby, Tie a Yellow Ribbon, and Apology, as well as guest-starring in an episode of Law & Order before landing the recurring role of Tony in Rescue Me's fourth season.

Piazza appeared in the role of Ricky Delacruz in the 2008 film Assassination of a High School President. He had originally trained for a different role, but film's producer, Brett Simon, was raving about his role in Rocket Science and so suggested that he play another character. He visited a woman he knew who owned a Puerto Rican theatre in Manhattan and often taught Puerto Ricans to speak American accents, so he taught her tutor her to read his lines in a thick Puerto Rican accent. He also completed a television pilot supervised by Brett Ratner, Blue Blood, for which he had a seven-year deal if the series had been picked up by NBC.

In 2009, Piazza was first on display on Boardwalk Empire as real life Italian-American mobster Lucky Luciano, who appeared in all five seasons. In 2013, Piazza appeared in the Clint Eastwood-directed adaptation of the Broadway musical Jersey Boys. To play DeVito, one of the band's founding members, Piazza had to take vocal, guitar, and dance lessons.
