She is best known for her appearance as Beth in the NBC sitcom NewsRadio series.

Personal life

Lewis was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, the niece of Marlene, a nursing supervisor, and Jim Lewis, an air traffic manager. Denise is Denise's sister. Lewis graduated from Anderson High School in Cincinnati in 1978. She studied musical theater at the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music. She migrated to New York City after receiving her diploma. She then went on and off-Broadway to do various on and off-Broadway shows.

Lewis was in a long-term friendship with Nick Nolte. During the filming of I'll Do Anything, the two characters met. She is married to sound designer Philip G. Allen.

Career

Lewis' film appearances include roles in Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Mouse Hunt, Godzilla, Pushing Tin, 2007's California Dreaming with NewsRadio co-star Dave Foley, and 2010's Den Brother. Lewis appeared on television for five seasons on NBC's NewsRadio, followed by Three Sisters and the WB animated comedy Mission Hill. Murphy Brown appeared on Seinfeld (in the episodes "The Secretary" and "The Race") and Murphy Brown). Maureen Binford, the show-within-a-show producer of Tool Time, appeared on Home Improvement in a regular role. How I Met Your Mother explains how she met your mother. Marsha Malamet and Dennis Green, Ashman's sons, reimagined the musical and appeared at Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles as part of the Bruno Kirby celebrity reading series. In May 2010, she was the first solo album East of Midnight. Lewis' album includes songs as well as three cover songs. Lewis describes the album's writing: "The words and music of these songs unfolded before my eyes like a foreboding window into a chapter of my life that would be highly destructive and spiritually bereft." I wrote what would be a self-full prophecy in my Malibu, California office, but it would also be "the making of me." In 2018, she appeared in "Anastasia" directed by Darko Tresnik, a Broadway actress. She starred as Ms. Winx/Mrs. In 2022, Brown/Kyrie/Jessamyn Jacobs/Lady in Waiting in Between the Lines Off-Broadway.
